nice hotel in the "north" with a great beach

Pros: i was able to RELAX!
Cons: free shuttle to old city during the day.
Location: beach. it's far from the old city and very little to do. it's the new up n coming hotel area on the beach.
great hotel, great breakfast buffet, great premise, comfortable room, BUT far from the old city. There is a little store in the lobby which is nice. The bar is cute, nice mingle area. Pool area is nice also. good to relax. you can take a taxi that charges 15 mil pesos (approx. 7 USD) or hop on a bus for 2.5 mil pesos ($1) and cab back home after the sun goes down. that's the sucky part. but you are infront of the beach and while the sand isn't white, the water is great, perfect place to relax, the locals don't harass as much (Cartagena is known for this) I spent 2 nights in the city and 2 nights at the Sonesta. Loved the tranquility and beach experience (Much better than Baru - i don't recommend if you want to relax). Not the place for single party people. It's more for families, couples and business peeps.

Everything good but foul smell at parking facilities. It was a heavy rainy season though.

New Construction

The hotel has a construction of a new building in the existing condo and the first two rooms were terrible with peaple screaming from side to side, drills, hammers and everything what doesn't allow you to rest. None room is beachfront because there are 3 towers plis the one being constructed and the hotel is behind the other two. Lots of kids is the pool after 11:00 AM and very bad towels at the pool.

DONT STAY AT THE SONESTA IN CARTAGENA

The hotel is in disrepair. The staff is properly trained. There was no accommodations for the inconveniences caused. Restaurant food was sub par. Hotel Wi-Fi was horrendous. very unhappy and will not stay there again
