Modern hotel close to the water

Posted Jul 28, 2016
We had a very good experience at the Aurora Hotel even though we only stayed for one night. The room was very well kept and clean and the decor modern which is the main reason why we chose this hotel since it appears most hotels in Catalina are boutique/vintage style. The room itself was quite small and barely enough space for 2 people sharing it. And the bathroom is very tiny, but it worked for one night. Hotel was close by to the boardwalk and water, however it is on a very steep hill to climb. It's probably less than half a mile but in the heat, that even took a toll. Thankfully the room is air conditioned so that helped a lot. Lastly, the rooftop deck was great. You can take your own food/drinks up there (obviously clean up after yourself) as it is not a "serviced" area but it sure has some great views of the harbor and all the quirky, cute homes on the sides of the hills. It was really the best part of the hotel for us. A definite recommend if you are looking for a hotel that is not so outdated.

The climb up the hill

Posted Jul 22, 2016
Nice room, but small. A nice remodel job, but the cheapest toilet seat they could find. A long walk up the hill, no elevator, a lot of work dragging luggage up the stairs. Other than that, it was O.K.

Disappointed

Posted Jun 23, 2016
Pros: The staff were very considerate and friendly.
Cons: install new air conditioners add a gym add a pool have a real "spa" facility or remove spa from hotel's name
Labeling hotel as a "spa" is a total overstatement. When I think of hotel with a spa, I imagine a separate unit or building with luxurious spa feel, spell and ambiance and not another room in the hotel. There were no relaxing lounge, steam room, shower, etc. My room's air conditioner was not properly working and had a loud clicking sound that did not provide a relaxing accommodation and feel. After a night of that ordeal, the manager moved us into another room. However, that air conditioner was not as bad but you can hear the rotor. Basically I didn't have 2 nights of rest or sleep. It was my daughter's 13th birthday celebration and we both have never been to Catalina so our total overall experience was not that great.

Lovely Hotel

Posted May 31, 2016
Pros: The terrace and the friendly staff.
Cons: Shuttle service to and from the hotel would be nice.
Location: Lots of shopping and food places right down the hill. The beach is close by as well.
Hotel was really nice. Staff was great. Everything was super clean and all modern updated. Even after we checked out they said while we were waiting for the boat we could come back and enjoy hanging out on the terrace of the hotel which was really nice! The terrace is beautiful we went there every morning with our breakfast and every night at the end of our day. For people with leg problems the walk to the hotel is hard since it is up a steep hill but some people were friendly and let us hitch a ride up the hill to the hotel which was really nice.

Pretty Hotel!

Posted May 31, 2016
Pros: The view on the terrace.
Cons: Shuttle service
Location: Lots of food and shopping places nearby.
Staff was great, super fast and accommodating! Even gave us a bag with towels to bring down to the beach since ours luggage was already all put away! Rooms were all pretty and breakfast was small but delicious! I thought it was nice they have breakfast til 10 which is nice for those who like to sleep in a bit! A bit of a walk compared to some hotels located right on the beach but cant beat their terrace with the beautiful view!
