Hotel close to centre of Catania ideal for sights.Posted Aug 23, 2015
Pros: close to Duomo main square
Cons: Wifi wifi wifi it was painfully slow. These days it's one of the main reasons for choosing a particular hotel. Pity wifi speeds are not advertised.
Location: Many excursions to be had and depart from main square and bus station is only a 100 meters away
Well would I stay here again? In short yes! But the air con was poor and wifi speeds and logging in process were slow and a hassle!

Fabulous service in beautiful part of the cityPosted Aug 4, 2015
Pros: Oh--and the breakfast included possibly the best sugar donut I've ever had. Dangerous!
I highly recommend this restaurant for quality, price, service and location. Il Principe is in good repair and in a very pretty part of the city with many restaurants and cafes around it. I say "good repair" because I spent about 10 days in Sicily and that is not a given even in a rather expensive hotel. At various times I stayed in places where the AC broke and was not fixed (not good in the Sicilian summer!), the running water stopped working (even worse), and the lock on my door malfunctioned--and these were hotels in the same or higher price range as Il Principe. But everything at Il Principe worked properly and was clean--most appreciated! The other outstanding thing about Il Principe was the service. The staff at the front desk speak excellent English, also not a given in Sicily but extremely helpful. I had an issue with a taxi driver that they were able to sort out for me too. I negotiated a fixed fare from Messina to Catania of 120 EUR, but when we got there the driver tried to make me pay more--200 EUR! My Italian is limited so I had a hard time communicating with him, but when he followed me into the hotel (yelling and making a scene), the owner and concierge stepped in. I don't know what they said, but they handled it so elegantly and efficiently, and I paid the 120EUR we had agreed. They told me it's common for some drivers to try to do that. Anyway I was very grateful, and I think you will not go wrong with Il Principe.

Central havenPosted Jul 10, 2015
Pros: Room decor, Reception staff who were kind, charming and friendly, Central location, fabulous air-con, wi-fi, quiet and peaceful.
Cons: The roof terrace could be a huge asset if it was cleaned up and given better furniture and some plants.
Location: Very near the cathedral (duomo) and university piazzas and the main shopping street, Via Etna and architecture of Via Crociferi. Castillo Ursino.
This is a great little hotel for a city break. It couldn't be more central and yet relatively quiet and peaceful. The handsome ex - prince's palace is in a tiny side street only yards from the two main central squares. Unfortunately, to keep these piazzas traffic-free, the one-way system funnels some traffic past one side of the hotel, but the double glazing is excellent, the air-con is quiet and very efficient and although usually rather sensitive to traffic noise, we had no problems and slept very peacefully. Our room was stylish and comfortable, with huge bed, previously-mentioned air-con, good bathroom, fridge/mini-bar (reasonable prices) and flat screen TV. No tea/coffee facilities, which seems the norm in Italy. Breakfasts were relaxed (if there were set times we never discovered them!) with good array of juices, cereals, fruit, cake (for breakfast?? Who knew?) eggs and pancetta bacon. But basically elaborate 'continental' style, not the massive displays typical of big resort hotels. Wi-fi is free and good, although you keep having to log back in, and you can borrow laptops to use in the lounge. The reception/lounge/bar is small but elegant and comfortable, with staff who make you feel really welcome. There is a sunny roof terrace where you can have drinks ferried up, although a few pot plants would dress it up a bit. it was a lovely base for a week's city break, gave us everything we required, and we would be very happy to return.

Very well located hotel.Posted Jun 10, 2015
Pros: The location, the high quality of the public surroundings.
Cons: I would have liked a selection of prepared fruit at breakfast.
It was a good base for exploring the main sights in the city with and extremely helpful receptionist and a very pleasant bar area serving a variety of cocktails.

Great location, decor with an odd breakfast?!Posted May 18, 2015 on Hotels
Lovely stay in a great location in Catania. Cool bars, fantastic restaurants and all the sights within minutes walk. Room was great and the hotel was a mix of old and new which was done really well, Reception was really helpful but a bit miffed on parking charges- I parked the car myself outside the hotel on the street and was told it would be moved to a secure plot- but it never moved and was still charged €18?? The breakfast was a very odd selection with a press button coffee machine serving the worst coffee we had whilst in Sicily and we barely got any recognition from the server??! Anyway- would stay here again without any hesitation but maybe skip breakfast!

Descendu pour une nuit. Emplacement idéal car très central. Très bon niveau de confort mais fenêtre sur cour intérieure très sombre
