Ok as far as ok needs to be. Dark rooms, no table and chairs, water heater needed repair. I would say the place has deteriorated in the 13 years since I was there last.

Little Gem
This was just a one night stay at this resort, but I wish we had stayed longer. First off, the staff we encountered from the front desk, to the security officer, to the pool guy - everyone was very friendly and welcoming, even when we literally got the manager out of bed early to check out and obtain a taxi. (Again, my apologies and thank you so much for helping!). Our room was simple, but spotless, quiet and cozy. Everything worked. Nice pool and very tranquil setting. This property seems equally suited to a romantic getaway and a business conference. I hope to return some day. Highly recommend :)

This property was badly affected by typhoon Orlando. The facilities stated by Expedia listing were not all available including wifi and TV. In fact we had to move rooms twice once because the room had no water which somehow came as a surprise to staff. This for a room that was 'cleansed' between guest visit. One to avoid for a bit until they sort themselves out which is a pity because the food pool and leisure activities are excellent

Stay was ok. Hotel seems to be on the verge of closing. Staff does no more than they have too. Rooms are ok. Big. Overpriced. Grounds are serene and peaceful. Hotel is too far and too hard to find. Inconvenient.

Very nice hotel; a little remote though. It takes some time to get to Cebu city. There is plenty to do at the hotel; it has a nice restaurant and bar, the grounds are lush and beautiful. Front desk staff was outstanding, Housekeeping staff was great I would stay at the Cebu Resort again, but would first decide what I wanted to do. If you want a place to relax that has all the amenities you need, it's a great place. If you want to go into Cebu City to shop or dine more than one time, it would be good to consider a different location.

Nice little boutique hotel
Good points. Nice pool, goods staff and well maintained. Bad points my room the bed was so old and a foam Mattress that is was very uncomfortable. Rooms are very dated Right under flight path so I have planes wake me up at 7am It is located a long way from anywhere and you can't just leave and walk about

fantastic as always
its always a pleasure staying at the alta , from the arrival when you are greeted with a complimentary drink and friendly staff to when you leave , it really is a fantastic place , not far from mactan airport , with swimming pools , lovely rooms and very nice food , if i had to find something to complain about it would be the price of the food , as having eaten in other hotels and restaurants i find that alta is a bit too pricey ! still there are other places to eat and it is the only fault i could possibly find ! to finish i would say just go there and enjoy !

We had a wonderful time together at Alta. The service was so wonderful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. Our tour was awesome and the driver we had was so patient and made us relaxed.

Hello to Jeremy. I am a little confused. When you say we are too small, you mean the resort? We are a 6 acre resort, one of the largest and nicest in Cebu. If you mean the room, the room you got was our cheapest room, which is almost always small at all resorts. Sorry that you were bothered by the noise. Many guest don’t mind the box style A/C , but we could have easily upgraded you to a room with quite air conditioner. All room, except our cheapest have the quiet type. Our other rooms are much larger. And in fact our prices for all rooms are some of the cheapest on the island. With 80 – 90% of Filipinos living in poverty, almost all of the Philippines is run down looking, though most places are quite safe. I know of no resort which is not in a , so called, rundown part of town. All the things you say about heavy traffic and smog us are true of Cebu City, but not of our small island of Cordova. Traffic is not bad here, island only has 30,000 people. In 1 or 2 hours I can travel 75KM. Probably you came at Fiesta time. No one drives in Fiesta, unless it is emergency. It is faster to walk. By the way we have 2 pools. The other one is almost never crowded. Sorry that no one told you. Thanks for helping me to explain to other guests how to get what they expect at our friendly, happy resort. Any guest who feels we are not delivering what we promise is asked to immediately ask to talk to me, Larry, or one of our helpful staff. Off-beat hotel complex
Bit of a distance from anywhere really but no loss for that, very pleasant atmosphere about the place and the staff are very good. If you're looking for glass and stainless steel go to chain hotel where you can't tell whether you're in New York or New Delhi, this place has a character all of its own it was very quiet as far as other guests there but the conference side was very busy apart from the occasional cheers from the conference rooms didn't really notice that though.

Thanks for seeing the good side of our vision and for your complements to our staff. Our caring staff, is said by many loyal fans of Alta Cebu, to be our most valuable asset, and of which we are most proud. We fancied ourselves to be a sort of quirky “artists dream” boutique hotel. Some guest have seen that side of us and tell us they love the homey, family feel of the place. My opinion is that owner operator places, where the owner lives on site, are better in all the most important ways. Most especially, that you can talk to the owners, if you need help. And that owner-operators attract more genuinely caring staff, and they, themselves care about customer satisfaction, and mentor through example. The distance is not really a problem that you won’t also encounter anywhere where there is a good resort. Most resorts are actually quite a bit farther to Cebu city. Since there are lots of things to do on Mactan Island- including many restaurants, points of interest, new malls, etc., there is less need to take the sometimes arduous trip to the City. Alta , with its 7 acre property is a great place to chill out or for enjoying our nearly nightly live entertainment. Larry- Owner

Not worth it!!
We came in a bit late but they did not have the confirmation number so they asked us to wait for more hours. They only reacted after we demanded to check in right away. The heater was not working and the bed was uncomfortable. No remote control for TV. It was just not worth it.
Hi Shaira My most sincere apologies! This is definitely not our normal. When you showed up late at night, the day staff had alredy gone home... that night we had a student trainee in charge of the graveyard shift. She did not realize that a guest with proper ID was safe to check into the room do to lack of repeat training. Very few employees anywhere in the world will learn everything in their first or even in their 11th training. Normally it takes a good 30 days for adequate training at any hotel, no matter how good it is. I talked to the head of FD so that they can be sure not to inconvenience future guests who forgot to print out their confirmations. We do have a butler who checks all the rooms before the guest arrives. Not sure why he did not check the room that night. Perhaps he was not told that someone would be occupying it. I will find out what went wrong and do some additional training. We are making daily training, and once a week we watch the video “Hotel Impossible”- something that makes our staff feel good, since we are hands down, much superior to some of the many hotels with serious problems . I mentioned that we got the Trip Advisor badge of excellence before, but you can never get complacent or give up on training. Probably the new resort we just finished building had something to do with some increase in problems. But now that it is finished, we can focus on getting our place back to it’s former excellence. It is our plan, as the live in owners and the staff are most proud of our reputation. It is our duty to make sure guests get what is promised Thanks for helping us to improve Larry Tarquinio- Owner

It was probably not the best day to visit the hotel. Completely understaffed, incompetent and dirty dishes all over the place. I had no choice than to stay one night since it's very remote located from everything. I cancelled my 3-night take my losses and booked somewhere else. I don't understand Expedia's recommendations on this hotel

We are rated very highly by most guestgs over the years, but recently I was gone so things are not quite perfect. Positive; The facilities of the hotel are great. I particularly loved the garden and the bay area. One of the two swimming pools is shallow and good for children. The staff are generally shy but a few of them became very friendly in the end. Bar and music were great for those who enjoyed them. Food is OK. Negative; Spa (jacuzzi) was out of order. The staff never offered anything unless we requested. The touring manager was quite unreliable - he gave us wrong information and did not give us important information. Packed breakfast for early departure we had ordered previous day was not ready at the time of departure. The music and other hotel guests were very loud until late night and we had to make a complaint to stop them. Inconvenient location.

Not a real resort
The staff is very nice, the greenery around the grounds is pretty. The room is quaint. Nice vocals from the singer in the evening. The food was mediocre, there is no gym, really not much in the way of amenities. The pool is ok. This is definitely a low budget place, but it's not bad, just not wonderful. You won't waste your money here.

Hello Anonomous Thanks for the compliments about the room and the staff Most of our former guests don’t think of us as low budget- we have guest who have returned as many as 12 times. And we got the Trip Advisor badge of excellence for many years, including 2016. There are too many possible activities to name, and we also won an award for the best gardens in Cebu. The resort is constantly being renovated. A few of our countless amenities are: 2 large swimming pools, , 6 acres of gardens, a marina and dock for island hoping, wall climb, nightly live entertainment. We have a tour desk, a butler to answer any questions. I eat all my meals there, from the same chef’s that the guests uses. The specials are great. I am from Silicon valley and used to some pretty amazing food. I do admit when a chef has done the same meal 1,000 times, his heart may not be as motivated as if it is a new special he created himself. I advise you try out our specials rather than ordering from the menu. The specials are not expensive. Our 116 staff members are said to be some of the friendliest in the Philippines When I am not at out other resort, I make it a point to talk to all guests personally. Excellent Garden Resort Very Eco Friendly and Rela
We really enjoyed our 5 day stay here and it was an excellent choice despite some mixed reviews which I advise you always to ignore. Hey it is the Philippines and they are still learning the meaning of super efficiency, timing and excellent customer care but they are trying so hard and deserve great praise for the effort they put in. If you are looking for that then don't stay here but if you want a very relaxing, enjoyable and very caring hotel/resort then I thoroughly recommend Alta. It won't disappoint and is excellent value all around. So give it a try. They deserve to do very well.

1 night is not enough
I stayed one night. The pools are good. Food at restaurant is lovely. And a good price. Room was nice. Tea n coffee making available in room. Shower is hot. Bed a little uncomfortable and wifi slow but it's quiet n peaceful at this place. There are many activities to do. You can volunteer at an orphanage nearby which would be something nice. Taxi drivers charge an extra 100 peso to pick up. However it's really not that far from the road. It'd stay there again.

ALTA RULES
Went to meet a lovely lady who i met online, travelled out to places together and enjoyed every moment. Resort had a conference on one evening, and while chatting to 4 men outside was invited inside. Found myself being a judge along with them to a karaoke competition. Was a great night, most enjoyable.

(Strength) The place is very peaceful and the stuff are very friendly. The breakfast was great since we thought it would only be serve by plate but they gave us buffet. The ambiance is relaxing and made us feel like we were out of the city life. (Weakness) They are not updated about online booking. It took us sometime to confirm about our online reservation, but thankfully there were a lot of vacant rooms. The wifi connection is very poor, it couldnt reach our room. There is no beach, and after my stay, i realize that they are quite expensive for a resort far from the beach. The stuff management needs to improve: there are flaws that they need to consider. We stayed in room 8 (buyog) where the landline (phone) creates a weird creepy sound as you call the front desk, its like the one you could hear from horror movies, but dont worry, you cant hear any ghost crying or asking for help, maybe there is just a line problem.
Thanks for letting me know about some problems at our resort. I need to get my butler and the maintenance guys to work harder to prepare rooms before renting them out. We just completed a new resort, so i have not been able to monitor operations as well as before Now that the resort is done, things will improve Larry Owner

Not Close Enough To Beach
The rooms are adequate. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. You can hear the big planes approaching Mactan airport.

Thanks for your review. Were you informed about our beach shuttle. We also offer island and beach hopping from our ocean-side dock. There is a boat dock in front of Alta Cebu Resort I don't get many complaints about airplane noise. Other resorts have that too. The alternative is to have a resort which if far from the airport, which means long travel time. Thanks for your comments Larry , owner

Great layover in Cebu
We booked this hotel for its proximity to the airport as we had a layover in Cebu. The outdoor pool was great as it was deep enough for a swim rather than just a splash. There is also a second pool more suitable for kids. The neighbourhood had lots of small eateries around which was what we wanted - so all in all, it was great for a layover.

Nice resort -beware of karaoke singers
The gardens at the hotel are nice. Breakfast? Not bad, with nice veg. I thought I'd read somewhere it was near a beach which it's not. A nice enclosed resort - no doubt if it had been near a beach it would have been double the price. Also, my booked shuttle to fetch me from the airport in the early hours of NYD never showed up - frustrating, despite being confirmed. A yellow or maybe white cab from there would probably be cheaper than the hotel's 475 pesos but then you've got to wait for one. The peace of the resort was disturbed v late at night and early am by the nearby karaoke singers. I don't know if this was just cos it was New Year's Eve but suspect not.
Hi Stephen We installed new policy to fix the noise problem. since we are 7 acres, we will put the noise away from sleeping areas. Relaxing soft music , whether it is live (we have live music almost every night, or otherwise, is allowed at our main pool. but if it is a noisy group who wants to sing loud and late, they they can use our equally nice, if not nicer, amphitheater and second pool are... with much more space and more seating out of the rain . Beautiful Tropical Resort
I loved my stay at Alta Resort, such a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the tropical surroundings. The staff are so kind and generous, they made us feel at home here. I loved the flowers and trees every direction you look, and be sure to look up and see the fruits these trees bare. Everything was so close by, from shopping at the mall, to the sea over the bridge they have created to enjoy the native surroundings. The food they created here is the best I have had, with local flavors and traditional international favorites. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Alta, I miss you already, and looking forward to seeing you again on my next vacation. Thank you

ALTA, good but not as good as the photos.
Basically this place is nice, the staff are excellent, we had a cheap alright dinner there as well. But the most noticeable thing about this place, as nice as it is, is that they had Amazing photographers take photos of the grounds. The photos don't truly reflect the surroundings of the rooms, or the fact that the pier deck overlooking the river goes over a shanty town with dirty water. Also didn't have any of those flowers in the toilet as per the photo (we were in delux room). Only really one pool was useable (next to the bar) since the other had loads of things floating in it. Don't get me wrong. the room was clean and nice, (although because it is surrounded by open patio, you have to keep the curtains closed a lot which makes it quite dark). Bit far from things though: ALTA to SM/Mall or Ayala, and ferry port about 40 minutes maybe a bit more airport to ALTA 40 min maybe more. Tip: NO MATTER what a taxi driver says, take the meter. it starts at 40php and will always be cheaper than set price. EVEN with traffic.

Thanks for saying my photos are amazing. My hobby from childhood was photography. It is nice to be able to out one's hobby to good use. We are in the act of upgrading the resort, now that we finished building our new resort in Bohol.

The hotel and staff were actually very nice. The problem with this resort is that it is too far from anything but a local outdoor market. No beach, or outside restaurants, no bars within walking distance. Essentially it is nice place to visit if you just want to stay in one place. I should also mention that when I was there, they had some kind of school retreat, so the place was packed with teenagers messing about. Evidently that happens from time to time

In a year or two, when they finish the bridge, we will be the closest resort to Cebu City. In fact we will be the first exit from downtown

Thanks for taking the time to review. We actually have 2 very large pools on our 5 acre property-new one finished last year. Alta Cebu is on a bay with ocean views on the upper floors. There an elevated walkway which goes to the dock at Alta Bay from where a guest may charter a boat for island hopping, scuba diving or rafting. Alta Cebu has 12 chiefs. We cook for J.P. Morgan , San Miguel, and a large call center in Cebu. Normally, the same chefs who cook for our corporate clients also cook in the restaurant. Corporate food services have many choices and are very demanding. Our food concession for some of the largest corporations in Cebu won out over all other contestants for quality and consistency. These large corporations constantly monitor the quality and taste of our food. From many guests, according to our survey forms they fill out, we get high rating for our restaurant, especially for the specials of the day. Perhaps Mr Smith got a meal which included Filipino food. Filipino cooking is an acquired taste for some westerners. Or perhaps our cook was testing a new recipe…even the best cook can go wrong with a new recipe. Most guests give us top marks for friendly service. But since it is the Philippines, it is unrealistic to expect Japanese or German levels of service.
