Ice Cold Room on Two Hot, Hot Nights!

Location: If you are looking for things to do, you can eat at Panera or Chili's or buy a car at a nearby car dealership. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Stayed at the HIE in NE Cedar Rapids on Saturday and Sunday nights while in town visiting friends. This is the first time I have stayed at this hotel since January 2015, and it was great to see that the remodelling has been completed. It's a great place to stay for the following reasons: A. Safe and secure location and close to the highway (380) and nearby restaurants and Target. (I'm from the Twin Cities--Target's hometown--I like Target.) B. Friendly staff--after I checked out yesterday, I was asked by the desk worker, "What can I do for you before you leave?" She remembered me from when I checked in on Saturday afternoon. The housekeeping staff also was pretty friendly. C. Free Breakfast with real protein! D. Cold yet quiet airconditioning. E. Quiet rooms. F. Nice pool. I had a good experience at this hotel. I anticipate that you would also. (Disclosure: I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past seven while visiting family and friends in the area.)

Excellent choice when staying in Cedar Rapids!

The remodeled room was so nice and modern. It was very clean and I felt very comfortable. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Maggie checked me in and gave me Rockstar service. I definitely will be back when I visit Cedar Rapids again.

Very disappointed.

I was not impressed by this stay the on night of April 8. Arriving from the west on Collins Road, I could not locate the motel as the sign was missing on the west side. I was not informed when I made the reservation that the motel was being renovated...and our room was right in the middle of this (our room had a 'plasterboard' smell). Shortly after arriving, I had changed clothes and was hanging clothes in the closet, and my door opened. There was a man who looked like he was instructing another employee on the door pass. After a minute or two, he looked up and realized that I was standing there...so he mumbled 'Sorry' and closed the door. At 2 am, the fire alarm went off, and sounded for at least 10 min. There was no instructions or announcements from hotel staff, so we and the guests in the rooms near to ours eventually just closed our doors and went back to bed! Early the next morning there was a paper shoved under the door, blank except for "Good Morning" (or something similar)on it. There was no one at the desk when we left, so we received no receipt and I still do not know how much we were charged.

Pros: Beer available at the front desk.
Location: Chilli's next door. Movie theater close by.
Wasn't bad. The hotel is under construction/remodel. Biggest complaint was the staff. Asked for an early check in and was abruptly told that the room will be available at 3pm. Didn't get the feeling that the person at the desk even checked. At time of check-in, after 4pm, the rooms around us were still being cleaned. Rented a room with sofa sleeper, had to ask for bedding for the sleeper as there wasn't any in the room. The bathroom was clean; however, there was only one full size towel. Numerous hand towels and wash cloths but had to ask for more full size towels. On morning of check-out room service knocked once on our door and then entered, it was 10:10am. They asked if we were leaving and stated that check-out was at 10am. All information given stated that checkout was at 11am.

Definitely recommend!

This was our first time to Cedar Rapids. We just needed a place to stay while visiting with extended family. We were actually disappointed that we didn't have more time to just stay and relax here. The room was comfy, and clean. The breakfast was exceptional. We will definitely recommend this to others, and would like to return sometime. Thank you!
