Andrea's home is a dream come true. When I saw it the first time ten years ago, abandoned but immersed in a luxuriant nature, built on the rock and overlooking an immense sea, I fell in love with it instantly. I really dreamed of a place like this where I could share my passions with a son of mine ..... I began to take care of her slowly and finally three years ago Andrea, my son! This house is dedicated to him because here there is everything I would like to teach him and share with him: respect for every living being, the imposing strength of the mountain, the immense serenity even in the storm of the sea, the patience and care that it requires growing a tree, a flower as well as love, respect for work and effort when we water the plants together or when it helps me by dragging a bucket with a little soil bigger than him ... and above all the rock on which the house is built and which I have left specially exposed. Just as Ulysses, Homeric hero, had built his house around a tree, immovable, safe, stable even in the fury of the storm and on his trunk he had carved the conjugal bed, a symbol of the stability of the family and the deepest affections, so Andrea's home is built on the rock, because my son knows that our home is safe and our love indestructible even if the storm rages outside.
I would like to share these emotions with you by hosting you at Andrea's home .....
Now I would like to describe our house.
It is an ancient rural building, probably dating back to the early 1900s, erected using, according to past techniques, the stones of the area placed on the rocks, to form very thick and resistant walls: in the renovation, just finished, I wanted keep them on sight to highlight the integration between man's work and nature.
Spread over 2 levels: the patio leads directly to the living room, with exposed stone walls and a large window overlooking the sea. I wanted to combine the warmth of the stone with the comfort of modern furniture, with a comfortable English-style double sofa bed and a table with flap that can be used for lunch with the family or organize a romantic breakfast for two.
The equipment includes an LED TV with satellite connection, pay per view SKY on request (with supplement), internet connection, a mini stereo for listening to music.
The kitchen, even if small, is equipped with everything you need. It has a further independent access on the patio, overlooking the barbecue. It also has a cellar of Italian and Sicilian wines (with supplement).
The large bathroom is elegantly furnished and the comfortable shower is made by integrating it into the rock on which the house is built. The two large windows open onto the splendid panorama.
The wooden staircase, reproduced on the original model, leads to a corridor on the upper floor: the light filters north from a window with a view of the sea and to the south from a glass door through which you access the solarium, a comfortable equipped terrace for relaxation with spectacular views of the gulf and the park behind.
The corridor leads to the two double bedrooms, with King size beds: they are both furnished with antique Liberty style furniture handed down over time and deliberately inserted precisely in order to contextualize the typicality of the stay in a place that refers to our local traditions.
The view from the bedroom windows is suggestive: it seems to be able to rest on the deck of a large ship but with the awareness mainland.
Perhaps the most magical moment is when the sea is stormy but you are reassured by the comfortable care of the shell of our room.
Adjacent to the house is a patio with built-in barbecue and furniture for organizing outdoor lunches or relaxing moments.
On the back of the house there is a comfortable outdoor shower, equipped with hot water.
Around it there is a large terraced garden, as it was in nature but also as the inhabitants of the place who lived and worked cultivating the olive trees had made it. The surrounding nature is part of the Madonie Park (protected area) which with its rich Mediterranean vegetation constantly envelops all the efforts of men: this is the wonderful sensation that the viewer feels.
Just as marvelous is the emotion that one feels only by turning one's body 180 degrees: one can in fact witness mesmerized at the constant changing of the color of the sea that stands out right under one's feet. Seeing is believing.
On a terrace I organized a small observatory: a telescope can be supplied on request (with supplement) because the position and the scarce surrounding artificial lighting is conducive to observing the stars.
