Very good hotel in the capital of Carinthia

We chose to stay at the Hotel Sandwirth for a few days as we were visiting friends who live just south of the central area of Klagenfurt: the hotel's location and the room price were ideal for this purpose.
Although we booked only a standard room, we were allocated a very large room with ensuite facilities at the front of the hotel and found this to be extremely comfortable. In such a spacious room, we did not need to open the windows, but there can be some traffic noise in the morning if you were to choose to do so. My wife and I speak little German, but this was not a problem as the staff we encountered all seemed able to speak sufficient English for us.
Breakfast for hotel guests is available in a first-floor room. The choice is wide and, whilst it is not cheap, we ate there each day of our stay and feel it represents good value, though the room (and the "overspill" room) can get rather crowded at peak times. Evening meals are not always available in the hotel: during our stay there were no restaurant meals on Saturday and Sunday evenings, but this gives opportunities to explore the centre of Klagenfurt, which seemed peaceful and with a good choice of establishments within a short walk in which to sample local, or international, cuisine.
