This is an older hotel, but its location is ideal.

Posted Jul 24, 2017
Pros: The location is ideal, near a subway station and many restaurants around the area. Watched the famous Gion Float parade passed through in front of it
Cons: Update their beds, too firm and too old.
Location: Perfect location and many restaurants around the area.
This hotel needs updating. Our room was so small and the bed was very uncomfortable. However, the hotel staff were very helpful and very polite.

Dear Carmel, Thank you for your generous comments regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We are thankful that you enjoyed your stay with us. As you may have noticed we are located in a very exciting area of Kyoto and within walking distance of so many of Kyoto’s main attractions and only one block away from the river and only minutes away from Gion. And just a few minutes away you’ll find Pontocho with all its restaurants and cool bars. May we suggest that a great way to discover Kyoto is by bicycle you can cover more ground and see so many incredible sights. When you return from exploring you may also want to try our Kotoran spa and enjoy one of its relaxing treatments. Again we thank you for taking the time to share your comments and we hope to get to serve you again in the near future. Best regards, Renaud Payette General Manager Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa

reasonable hotel.

Comfortable, somewhat small and value for money. No frills, easy access if you can spend cab fare. No major extras, rooms are somewhat small and cramped for a four member family. Value for money and nothing more. Room was somewhat damp.

Far from Kyoto train station and needs updating.

Posted Jun 24, 2017
The hotel is not close to Kyoto train station. The room was very small and needed updating. The bathroom was not pleasant and needed updating as well. Even though our room was no-smoking, it smell like smoke and during the night smoke from other rooms came through the vents to our room. The hotel pictures look much nicer than what it really is. The spa was okay, however the breakfast buffet was terrible. This is our third hotel during our trip and definitely the worst. I don't recommend it.

Well located, comfortable, needs a face lift

Great location right next to the subway and walkable to Pontocho, Gion, and parts of Southern Higashiyama. The rooms haven't been updated in a while but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was decently sized (for Japan). We also made use of the coin laundry in the basement.

Kyoto 3 nights

Posted May 16, 2017 on Hotels
Room was very small. No cupboard to hang clothes and could only walk around one side of bed. Staff were friendly and helpful. We asked for a late checkout extending by 2 hours and were asked for more than the daily rate we paid. This left a very bad impression. Foyer and entrance nice and staff were helpful regarding directions. Close to metro. 2 min and lots of food and shops just outside.

Very disappointing

Smokey smelling room greeted us. Poor and dated room with little or no amenities, well and truely overpriced.

Small rooms but great location.

Posted May 12, 2017 on Hotels
We had been advised that hotel rooms in Japan were quite small well this hotel lived up to that recommendation. I'm not sure why hotels choose to put light colored carpet in their room. The carpet in our room was very stained the rest of the room was quite clean. However the location of the hotel was fantastic clise to restaurants, transportation, the Gion area and shops.
