elegant hotel close to shopping and museum

Posted Nov 22, 2017
Pros: Closeness to shopping and museums
Cons: noise from room equipment
The hotel corridors were under renovation, but otherwise in good condition. The room was comfortable and well serviced. Only complaint was the noise from the HVAC unit and mini bar fridge in the room. Both were very noisy and seemed to cycle every ten minutes. Also even though we were at the end of a corridor, we could hear neighbouring rooms coming and going. could use some better sound proofing.

Perfect Location

Posted Oct 17, 2017
Pros: Excellent location
Cons: Some basic updating: older wallpaper, headboards, etc.
Location: Central Park is a quick walk. Madison Ave. is near and is a fun walk. We highly recommend Flex Mussels for dinner. It is nearby and is outstanding.
We chose the Carlyle because it is close to Central Park where we were attending an event. It was the perfect location. The staff at the hotel were some of the most friendly people we have met. Everyone was kind, smiling and very helpful. We loved staying at the Carlyle. It is an older hotel and they are doing some needed updates but it wasn't an issue for us.

In the Grand Style

Posted Jul 30, 2017
Had business meetings downtown, but decided to stay here as a more peaceful retreat - so was a little out of way re business, but a great destination for leisure traveler. From the moment I walked in, I felt I had entered an upscale "private club". Checkin was quick and desk clerk escorted me to the elevator and discussed amenities. They actually have an elevator attendant who always greets you and accompanies guests to their floors. I would describe the hotel as "grand style" - a bit older, but classic. The room was larger than most in NYC. The bed and bedding was crisp and incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was large and the shower had spectacular pressure. The restaurant was spectacular and service incredible. Excellent hotel.

Great location near museum row, central park!

Posted Jul 30, 2017
Pros: Old school NYC elegance with fantastic staff, night club and legendary piano bar. A short walk from the Metropolitan Museum of art and natural history
We had a great time visiting in Manhattan for 4 days. Getting around was easy walking or taking Uber. I love the museums in the upper east side and spending time in central park. The Boathouse in central park has great food and drink and a friendly atmosphere. We loved staying at the Carlyle and the history of the hotel was interesting.

Terrible customer service

Posted Jul 10, 2017 on Hotels
This hotel has the worst customer service. I am a New Yorker, and always thought of the Carlyle as a staple of manhattan, so when We were searching for a hotel for our wedding night we decided to book the hotel. Of course true to life we had an issue prior to the wedding day, and I tried to cancel the reservation. I explained to them very honestly and carefully and they still will not refund our money, so we had to go to the hotel Anyway even though it was a major inconvenience. We get there, and it's just an old hotel with nothing amazing. The person at the front desk offered us complementary breakfast as we showed up in our wedding clothes, and made a notation in the computer, yet in the morning we were told there was no such offer. Overall, so highly disappointed. I think the only people who the Carlyle cares about are celebrities because the reputation of it being a wonderful hotel is absolutely not true. Our wedding night was supposed to be special and I regret booking this hotel. I usually do my own research regarding hotels, but since I am from NY, and always heard of the Carlyle, I assumed it had some credence. Extremely disappointed
