In the Grand Style

Had business meetings downtown, but decided to stay here as a more peaceful retreat - so was a little out of way re business, but a great destination for leisure traveler. From the moment I walked in, I felt I had entered an upscale "private club". Checkin was quick and desk clerk escorted me to the elevator and discussed amenities. They actually have an elevator attendant who always greets you and accompanies guests to their floors. I would describe the hotel as "grand style" - a bit older, but classic. The room was larger than most in NYC. The bed and bedding was crisp and incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was large and the shower had spectacular pressure. The restaurant was spectacular and service incredible. Excellent hotel.

Great location near museum row, central park!

Pros: Old school NYC elegance with fantastic staff, night club and legendary piano bar. A short walk from the Metropolitan Museum of art and natural history
We had a great time visiting in Manhattan for 4 days. Getting around was easy walking or taking Uber. I love the museums in the upper east side and spending time in central park. The Boathouse in central park has great food and drink and a friendly atmosphere. We loved staying at the Carlyle and the history of the hotel was interesting.

Nostalgic, a classic! The experience is a throw back to a more cultured New York . An era that is almost gone & yet The Carlyle nods to this gilded age & is current all in the same !

Pros: Staff was very accommodating. and the room service coffee was excellent.
Cons: Some of the interior is little worn
Spent a very nice long weekend with my wife. The hotel is in a nice neighborhood near central park. Local dining is world class.

DO NOT STAY AT THE CARLYLE

The rooms are in poor condition and the design outdated. Inside your room you can hear the conversations and TV in the adjacent room. The worse part was that they are renovating the rooms with noise, many workers and dust from Morning to late afternoon. I travel extensively and I have never had a worse experience. After the first night, I left the hotel and moved to a different hotel. DO NOT STAY at the Carlyle.

Breakfast beyond outrageously expensive

Fantastic location, beautiful lobby, rooms ok but small, shower water cold, but breakfast outrageously expense beyond the beyond for scrambled eggs. I'd like give them top ratings but I can't.
