    5/5 Excellent

Very laid back and warm place with beautiful surroundings. Highly recommended even if you don’t mind the dorm setup for the rooms.

I needed a place to rest after a family BBQ in Vermont, and TORL was just the ticket! Victoria helped me check in before anticipated, so that I could set up my PJs and toiletries to be ready if the BBQ went very late that night. The room was tidy and clean, with new windows and blinds, the bed was comfy, and the fresh mountain air was perfect for sleeping on a summer night. Yes, there is traffic on RTE 4, but that's life - earplugs are available, or you can bring your own. I slept well, and had a nice shower in the morning. Note that some rooms use the shared showers down the hall, and some rooms have a private shower - you could ask when reserving. In the morning, people gather around the large fireplace room to plan their hikes or trips for the day, and if you want company for breakfast, there is always someone to say hi to at the giant wooden table/benches. For example, I was invited to join a group of hikers I chatted with at breakfast, but had to get on the road for a long drive. Breakfast includes OJ, fresh-brewed coffee or tea (lots of it), with real milk or half and half, creamer if you need it, instant oatmeal (a high-protein type was available when I stayed, and appreciated), various types of bread with PB, Nutella, cream cheese, and butter/jam, depending on the shopping run that week. Also in the mini-fridge were DELICIOUS Quark-style high-protein Bavarian yoghurt. I really appreciated having this protein option at breakfast. Thanks :-)

    Loved it, would stay again!

Individual rooms are small, but there’s a large “common room” area that is full of brain teasers and games like chess, checkers, and backgammon. An employee baked a spice cake that night for breakfast and gave us a piece to try while we were playing games at 10 at night. They have good WiFi, but it really only works in the common room, or if you’re close to your bedroom door. I didn’t find it to be a big problem, especially since we just played games until we went to bed and if you really need wifi you just have to sit in the common room. The owners were very kind and recommended restaurants that were close by. The room was spotless, it had a nice rustic feel with lots of wood, and the bed was comfy. Just make sure you bring a jacket, because some cold air gets in. We would definitely stay again!
