Little Oasis in downtown Merida

Posted Apr 1, 2018
Pros: Excellent service, great location, beautiful decor.
Cons: A more affordable restaurant, someone who could communicate in english.
Location: Shopping, restaurants, ruins, cenotes, walking tours, Saturday festival.
My family (wife and two kids; 9 and 11) stayed in this hotel for two nights. We booked it online for around $100 with a welcome drink and a free breakfast, and it was well worth it. From the moment we got there it was an excellent experience. We drove to Merida from Cancun stopping at cenote Uxman in Vallodolid on the way (about 5 hours in total with the 2 hour stop for a swim and lunch). We pulled up to the front of the hotel, a valet came out right away and helped bring our bags in, then he parked our car in a safe locked area two blocks away. The hotel is located right in the main tourist area (mostly mexican tourists) but the hotel provides a beautiful, sanctuary when the business of downtown Merida becomes overwhelming. There is a pool but the overall vibe is quiet. It is a converted monastery with beautiful art and interesting architectural features. There is a small restaurant with good but slightly expensive food. We spent most of our time in the area walking around, shopping, visiting ruins and swimming in cenotes. It was a great place to stay in Merida and perfect start to our holiday. It helps to speak a little bit of spanish as it is difficult to communicate in english with the employees at the hotel but that goes for most of your experiences in Merida anyway. Highly recommended.

Interesting building

Posted Mar 3, 2018
Had room 32 on top floor, very noisy at night due to air-con units on roof and also hot at night. Air-con in room bit dated and noisy. Moved down to room 22 on 2nd floor, much quieter and also cooler at night. Older staff members were a bit grumpy and a simple request seemed to be too much trouble. Check-in wasnt very welcoming. Younger members much more friendly and helpful. It is a delightful and interesting building, rooms are a good size but bathrooms a bit on the small side, not much shelf space, courtyard is a lovely setting for breakfast. Swiming pool is a nice touch, although could do with new loungers, water cold but refreshing after a day out in the sun. Did a day tour to Uxmal through Turitransmerida, well worth it. Would recommend but maybe avoid 3rd floor rooms.

A Pleasant Repeat Visit

Posted Feb 22, 2018
Pros: The colonial charm and relative tranquility make this hotel an oasis in the centre of Merida.
Cons: It's a shame the restaurant is closed in the middle of the day. There are shops nearby though if you need a cold drink.
Location: We like Patio 57 (formerly Alberto's Continental). Eat Lebanese dishes in an ambiance that leads you to expect Harrison Ford wil appear at any moment.
We had another enjoyable stay here in this atmospheric hotel close to the main square. The bathrooms have been upgraded since last year so that was a plus.

Nice but a bit tired in the bathroom butbeautuful

Posted Jan 22, 2018 on Hotels
Beautiful building nice staff but issues that had they been mentioned at the time would have been ok but things were a bit tired! Shower didn't work - water was not warm enough for a bath anywAy - and hot tub was just a old tatty bath with weak water jets - and there was a loud water pump noise that vibrated the room at 8pm and 8am (on Sunday!) - they knew about it but didn't say! Welcome drinks were one choice and no deviation which was a shame after a long trip - wifi weak - but it's beautiful just not actually as it says - communal area great and clean and bed lovely.

Beautiful historic boutique hotel downtown Merida

Posted Jan 9, 2018
Pros: It was unique, and the staff was very helpful and pleasant.
Cons: The structure was old, so there's not much that can be done. The shower flooded and pooled with water, and didn't drain properly.
Location: Very close to all the best downtown attractions.
The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating and kind and friendly. They had breakfast on site, a nice little pool, and the hotel was located just a few blocks from the center square and all the best restaurants and cultural attractions, like museums, cathedrals, and theaters. The hotel was renovated from an old monastery, so it possesses a lot of unique character, just like most of the city. Would recommend.

great location for a short stay

Posted Jan 7, 2018
Pros: location, breakfast, safety and quiet at night.
Cons: not much ambience at the restaurant, poolside area is small.
Location: Make the trip to Uxmal. Note that you can uber there, but you need to arrange a ride back as well in advance as there is no uber service from Uxmal.
The location of this place is perfect, safe, and quiet at night. The breakfast, which was included, was simple and delicious (eggs a la mexicana, or just plain scrambled eggs and toast with sweet bread). Clean - typical for that price range and that part of the world (the sink, show and toilet were clean, but there were some old layers of toothpaste splatters on the wall etc). The bed was acceptably comfortable - fine for a couple of nights. We stayed for 5 nights and we were really happy to get home to our own bed. AC works great, and room cleaning was always conveniently timed. It was a challenge to get water or ice when the night staff were on - the daytime staff, especially Jose, who runs the restaurant, were excellent. The room we had was smallish, but we had a king sized bed. Weirdest part was that we had no windows. There were a couple of shutters on the door we could open, but they were small, and let in almost no light. This was great for sleeping, but we did;t feel like we wanted to spend any extra time in a room. Lucky for us, we were next to the courtyard restaurant, so we were able to use a table and chairs there as a sort of extension of our room during our stay (as almost nobody was ever there). Overall, a good little place for a budget conscious traveller. Fun and unique, great location, and good accommodations... great if you just want a place to crash at night and plan on being out and about most of the day and evening.
