good location but it stops therePosted Jun 29, 2015
Cons: customer service, better food storage practices, better attention to detail
Location: a bit of a walk from most attractions but still convenient, the Battery, restaurants, shopping, the SC Aquarium
the check in was fine. pleasant staff and very accommodating. the location of the hotel is good since Meeting Street is one of the hot spots in Charleston although you do need to walk several blocks to reach most restaurants, etc. the hotel in general is a bit older, but that is to be expected in a town that aged. however, the rooms contained older furniture, something that the Embassy Suites can control. the major problem we had was with the staff and the breakfast. not only did we have a problem with someone on their staff entering our room unannounced AND with the do not disturb sign on our door, but others we met at the hotel had the same problem. when confronted with the situation, the front desk only said, "Sorry. I will speak with housekeeping about it." that was it. then, when we were eating our breakfast in the morning, there were cups of yogurt that were within date, but were spoiled upon opening. there was also mold covering the cups of cream for the coffee. we also asked that our room be serviced, and after spending the majority of our day away from the hotel, we returned that evening to find it had not been. after we complained at the front desk, again, they agreed to waive our parking fees for the week. after paying $235 per night, i was hoping for a better experience.

Hotel very tiredPosted Jun 3, 2015
Was checked into a room with no exterior windows. Front desk clerk was not happy when we requested a room change. I am a Hilton Honors member also. Generally hotel is very tired, carpets and rooms need updating as they are warn as is not worth the $260++ a night in current condition.

Old Citadel!!!Posted Jun 1, 2015
Pros: Great staff.
This hotel used to be the Citadel and it has a lot of character (unlike most chain hotels). The rooms were nice and clean, the breakfast was unremarkable at best. It was a couple of blocks further from the waterfront than I would have liked, but the price was right. It was still walkable, and if we were really lazy we could have driven closer to the waterfront and parked in a reasonably-priced parking garage.

Historic - Convenient - AmenitiesPosted May 24, 2015
Location: Hyman's Seafood was our favorite - ate dinner there 3 out of 4 nights! Market for shopping Ft Sumter boat trip & tour Boone Hall Plantation
Overall, this was a great hotel and we would definitely stay there again! Very convenient to downtown and we walked everywhere. Loved that the original Citadel had been transformed into an Embassy Suites! Breakfast was excellent - especially the made to order omelets - dining in the breakfast area or in the beautiful open atrium! The complimentary cocktails and appetizers each evening were a great bonus! Cooling off in the pool after a full day of sightseeing was nice! Afternoon cookies were a treat! Our suite was great - very comfortable with lots of space! Excellent daily maid service. Very friendly and helpful staff! Charleston is such an enchanting city and we hope to become frequent visitors and will stay at the Embassy Suites!
