Fantastic StayPosted Jan 3, 2015
My husband and I had a terrific stay at the Governor's House. We loved the location- walking distance to all the sights of historic Charleston, but not at the crowded, busy part. The inn was beautiful and maintained perfectly. The staff was all friendly and very accommodating. Breakfasts were superb- eggs Benedict one morning and Bananas Foster French toast the next day along with wine, tea and goodies in the afternoon. Can't wait to go back!!

Excellent inn situated in historic districtPosted Oct 16, 2014
Pros: All as above, handy parking in the grounds of the inn. Lovely interior, like walking back in history.
Cons: All good
Location: Located on Broad Street a short distance from Market Street and Meeting Street in the historic district and within walking distance of Rainbow Row.
On arrival we were greeted with an offer of Wine and afternoon tea. This stay showed Southern hospitality at its best, nothing was too much trouble. There are several different room types according to individual taste. The inn serves home cooked breakfasts differing every morning but will also accommodate individual requirements to suit. Very well equipped bathroom with whirlpool and really comfy bed. I would not hesitate to recommend this inn.

lovely inn in a perfect locationPosted Jul 17, 2013
we stayed at the Governor's house inn for our very first trip to Charleston. It was a great experience. The staff is extremely kind and hospitable. Very much enjoyed the complimentary ice tea and cocktail hour of wine and nibbles. The breakfast was excellent. We brought our own bikes to explore the town. They had bikes of their own but they were being refurbished so we were happy we brought our own. Only two cautions. If you are allergic to cats, you should know they have a very sweet old and friendly cat named New..and our only disappointment was with the shower... they really need to install a flow regulator. Not everyone enjoys fire hose type pressure.. my husband said he felt like a protester being sprayed... and this caused the drain to not be able to keep up. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Grandeur maintainedPosted May 16, 2013
Pros: The private verandah, the green of the garden and inn cat
Cons: Breakfast was disappointing by the standards of other inns we stayed in in the region.
Location: Excellent An easy walk to good restaurants ,snack bars and the mos note resting historically significant part of town
A wonderful spacious suite with its own insect proofed outside sitting area was all that we could have asked for. The main house is a listed building furnished in a sympathetic period style that wors well. The main verandah was a pleasant place to sit for a very good afternoon tea (and generous glass of wine). Another nice touch was the decanter full of pretty reasonabl sherry that was always accessible. With good parking an within easy walking distance of the centre of town this was a good base for the first to tourist in town.

Beautiful, friendly and so relaxingPosted May 14, 2013 on Hotels
Loved staying here with my husband. Morning coffee and breakfast out on the porch, so very relaxing! While sitting there the Jasmine would remind me where I was, far from my hectic life back home in Cincinnati. The hotel is beautifully furnished, the staff so friendly, the location perfect for shopping and walking to the Battery. We were sad to leave.

Wonderful getaway in the heart of CharlestonPosted May 7, 2013
Pros: It was a slice of history that perfectly represented the city of Charleston.
Location: It is located within walking distance of mostly everything.
My wife and I are expecting twins and were looking for a place to celebrate our last hurrah 'til we excitedly welcome our twins. We could not have picked a more wonderful place.

Beautiful historical surroundingsPosted Apr 20, 2013 on Hotels
My two nights here were wonderful. Arriving later than planned due to airline delays, I was greeted with wine and a plate of treats from the afternoon tea I had missed. The robe in the room was comfortable, the canopy bed with steps beautiful, and the room quiet. The breakfasts had a different special each day. All guests sat around the large dining room table so you could visit with other guests and discuss their adventures in the area. The location was perfect to see houses in the Battery and close to one of the free tram stops. I felt safe walking back from concerts or dinner at night. Fires were in two fireplaces downstairs in the 3 reception areas--lovely to take in the room and history of the home.
Incredible ExperiencePosted Feb 8, 2013 on Hotels
We loved the hotel and city so much we wanted to stay an extra night. They were fully booked, but helped us find another suitable Bread and Breakfast. I cannot say enough about the wonderful, accomodating staff or the incredible, historic mansion. We have travelled all over the country and the world, and there is nothing like the Southern Hospitality we have encoutered in Charleston. I truly hope we will return to this beautiful city and hotel some day.

New Years Eve in CharlestonPosted Jan 2, 2013
Pros: Tea time and location
Great location, could walk to everything we wanted to do. Excellent service. While I agree the breakfasts are "small" compared to some B&Bs, I thought they were perfect in that I wasn't overly stuffed and was hungry at lunch time appropriately. Thus, I thought the portions were perfect size. The only slight downer was I picked the room specifically for the fireplace which was broken during our stay. Lots of other working fireplaces in the common rooms. Cozy rooms and loved tea time in the afternoon. Very nice off street parking lot with easy turn around drive.

Great B&B for a weekend getawayPosted Nov 6, 2012
My wife and I had never been to Charleston and we wanted to see the city. The B&B was right in the center of things. Staff was knowledgeable and attentive. We also learned a lot from the other guests on what visit and where to dine. Breakfast was superb as was the high tea.
