Be cautious if you're booking a villa thru Expedia

Posted May 26, 2015
There was confusion for first timers. Although listed on Expedia As a room choice for Sanctuary hotel, a villa is actually individually owned and managed separately from the hotel. The location is different, and you can't use the hotel gym or pools as a villa guest. The villa is not bad, but it is not what you see advertised here for the Sanctuary hotel. If you can adjust your expectations for a nice beach rental, it is a economic choice. In our case, we had no idea until one day prior to travel when we unexpectedly found out. It was too late to make any changes. Some of the villa staff need more training. We requested to replace a broken pack n play, which never happened the first night, and were wakened up 7:20 in the morning even if we told them not to call the landline. Chris and Brent from the management team saved the day for us by apologizing with thoughtful gifts, but obviously I wish none of these happened in the first place. Loved the island itself, and will try to book the REAL hotel room next time, definitely NOT through Expedia!

Great Time at Kiawah

The Santuary was more than we expected. We were pampered with the excellect service starting with check-in, the staff on the beach, the staff at the pool, and the many other staff on hand.

Fabulous Coastal Hotel

Posted May 5, 2010
Besides the fact that the hotel is definitely 5 star quality, the staff was extremely polite, friendly and helpful. The hotel has incorporated much of the local trees and plant life. Kiawah Island itself is a peaceful and beautiful sanctuary devoted to preserving the wild life and plant life. The Sanctuary Hotel is aptly named.
