A pleasant retreat

Posted Sep 30, 2015
Pros: The elegance and the historic environment.
Cons: Radios don't work, plumbing could be improved, beds are a bit dodgy.
Location: Downtown is less than 3 miles away, interesting restaurants just blocks away.
Since the VanLandingham is on the National Register of Historic Places it was truly a marvelous step back in time, back to the early 1920"s. The grounds are just a delight to walk about in, and the staff is excellent.

it had a "magical" feel ...

Pros: the grounds were beautiful!!!! the house was lovely! (i enjoyed watching the Australian finches!)
Cons: hard time getting in the front door, our shower needed specific instructions, no regular coffee available before 8:00 am, knowledgeable staff re: hous
Location: location worked very nicely... we really enjoyed mac's speed shop bbq... excellent! cajun queen had good food/not service... amelie's bakery - yum!
i loved the house (circa 1913)... it has a wonderful character about it! the grounds were beautiful... a photographers paradise (at least for me...) we were lucky enough to stay in the "penthouse" as we called it or the attic, whichever you prefer... we were pleasantly surprised at the amount of room we had... you had to be careful not to hit your head though on the perimeters of the room... it had a wonderfully "home-like" feel to it, which is exactly what i like about a bed and breakfast.... the shower was a bit small and hard to regulate the water temp... but we did not mind... breakfast was delicious...
