The Hilton Garden Inn was a great recovery from a poor airbnb experience. I was grateful it was such high quality dependable lodging with terrific amenities. The pool and hot tub were especially appreciated!

Good for business not holidays

Pros: Staff friendly, helpful and polite. Free shuttle bus.
Cons: More sun shades for the external areas.
Seems a nice hotel for business purposes but not a good choice as a holiday hotel. Tea/coffee available for free in the mornings and iced water, fruit and biscuits the rest of the day Don't expect too much from the in-house restaurant - I ordered a main and dessert off the not very extensive menu. The main wasn't available (ribs!) so I had to order something else and was then told the chocolate dessert I had ordered was also unavailable because it was still frozen. Having come back from a full days sightseeing at 5.30pm and just wanting a refreshing shower (having left at 8am) we were horrified to find our room had not been cleaned. Spoke to reception who said they had had a busy day (as had we) but promised to get housekeeping on the case. To be fair they got to it straight away and we managed to get into our room at 6.15pm. They also made sure our room was cleaned early on subsequent days.

Pros: Cleanliness, nicely appointed, location, friendly help staff.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Near Monticello and down town Charlottesville with the University and it's historic sites.
It was in a very easy place to stay and see the sites we wanted to see and close to an excellent restaurant.

Nice convenient hotel

Pros: Location, comfort and access to any area we wanted to get to.
Cons: Attitude of some of the staff.
Location: Monticello, Ashlawn, Montpelier, UVA
Overall the staff was pleasant and helpful. Our first morning down we were met near the breakfast area and curtly told how much we were expected to pay as we had booked on Expedia as we approached the dining area. The manner in which it was done didn't settle overly well. The hotel itself is well-situated with easy access to most everything in Charlottesville. The Shadwell restaurant is close by and offers a discount to people who stay at the hotel. The food was varied and the service delightful.
