The room is huge and opens to a large balcony and park. Very quiet and beautiful. The hotel is old and could use many upgrades. However the size of the room and historical charm of the hotel would make pick the Splendid again if I traveled back to Chatel.

Outdated hotel in nice location.

Posted Aug 31, 2015
Pros: Bedroom clean and good view. Location is good for town centre access. Inexpensive.
Cons: Spend some money on building maintenance!
Location: A small spa town. A few bars and restaurants to visit and a fascinating local church in town. Reccomend a hire car to get out of town.
Hotel decor throughout was best described as scruffy. Our bathroom looked like it was last decorated in the mid eighties. Loose shower and bathroom door handle loose. Stair carpets were worn out. Breakfast was okay, but expensive. Gardens were in need of maintaining. Lots of broken steps etc. The hotel really does need some money spending on it.......

This is an old hotel, very nice and spacious rooms. It needs some maintenance.

Charming hotel

Difficult parking for less mobile and the staff were somewhat "detached". The room was great: more shabby-chic and characterful than bland. We loved it. Breakfast room/ restaurant was stylish. Chatel-Guyon is classy. We would use this hotel again.

An unexpected little gem of a hotel

Posted Oct 17, 2009 on Hotels
This was a fabulous 'find'. Completely unknown to us, the setting was in an elegant thermal spa town. The hotel lived up to its name Splendid. The room was spacious with a balcony with pleasant view. Downstairs one could take the waters where various thermals spas were pumped to flowing taps where one could sample 4 different waters containing different minerals. Best feature of all was the outdoor heated swimming pool with fabulous view of the surrounding hills and pine forests. It was like stepping into a lukewarm bath and a total delight after a long drive to relax in such a manner. (Only open from late Spring to early Autumn).Must certainly make point of visiting this hotel again.
