Historic hotel, great staff

Posted Jul 15, 2017
Really enjoyed the stay, but if you're looking for a true-to-the-era hotel, this isn't it. The lobby is an amazing structure built in the early 1900s, but the furniture and trappings have a more 1950ish feel. The train cars are amazing, but they aren't well kept. The indoor pool is outstanding, but the water feature wasn't functioning during our stay. The staff were always extremely helpful, and the courtyard is beautiful. There is a bocce ball field, oversized Jenga and checkers, as well as corn hole to stay busy. The on-site restaurant, Frothy Monkey, was outstanding! The food, service and staff were really, really great.over all, the experience was good, and though I'd stop in to see if the feel of the hotel has changed, I don't think I'd stay there again. And that makes me sad.

Thank you for staying with us. We are currently undergoing renovations for the entire hotel, so there are many changes happening in the near future. I apologize that we have taken out the water feature for the indoor pool area. Thank you so very much for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed your stay.

Nice place

Our experience was a good one the staff was very friendly and helpful room was clean and the restaurant's were great. Our experience was enough for us to recommend to anyone and for those wanting that little something extra we recommend trying out one of the rail cars.

very disappointed

Posted Jun 5, 2017
Pros: It was easy to find
Location: Free electric bus to the downtown area but hotel was pushing the paid trolley tour and did not let you know about the options
We stayed in the train car room and it was dirty, dated, and smelled of mold. Fiberglass in the tub was cracked and homeless people were sleeping in the garden right outside the room. Paid extra to stay in the train and will never come here again.

I'm so very sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. We are currently undergoing renovations and the train car rooms are next. I will get with our staff about making sure to let guests know of their transportation options. The Trolley Hop just opened and is based inside our hotel, which is why we are promoting it. We do have ambassadors that here around the clock roaming the property, however our property is open to the public. I do hope you reconsider coming back once renovations are complete.

Train Car was the best!!!

Posted May 11, 2017
We've stayed here three times now, but this was our first time in a train car. It was so perfect! The beds were comfortable, the shower had good water pressure, and it was surprisingly quiet! This is our new favorite hotel and we'll always sleep on trains again! :-)

Chatanooga Choo Choo Hotel disappoints

Posted Apr 28, 2017
Pros: It was directly across from Conference location. The staff was very nice.
Cons: Bedspreads.
Location: Nothing, if you were not attending conference. Some upscale restaurants.
Very sparse. Just sheets and thin blanket on bed. Not a place to, safely, walk to from hotel to get reasonably priced food. I was alone and just really did not feel safe there. I should have asked for 2nd floor room. At check in, I did not realize that there was a sliding glass door to patio that opened up into area that was assessable to anyone who wanted to enter.

Unrealized Potential

Posted Apr 14, 2017 on Hotels
We loved that the hotel was the historic train station and that our room was actually an old train car. The location, grounds and surrounding businesses were also great. However, the room itself was pretty shabby and disappointing. It is so unfortunate that they haven't renovated the train cars to a higher standard. There is so much potential there for a truly first class property.

Rooms that are not train cars are MOTEL rooms and should have been priced accordingly. If i came back I'd stay in the train cars- definitely NOT the regular motel room

Dated, but a fun novelty

Posted Apr 7, 2017
We had a good time staying in one of the train cars at the Choo Choo. It is a fun experience, but just be prepared that the rooms feel very dated and have a musty smell to them. Also, the bathrooms are tiny and very outdated. Lastly, each train car has two rooms in it and the walls between them are paper thin! But we still enjoyed it just for the experience of staying in the train car! Probably a one time thing :-) The lobby and common areas were beautiful and the staff was very helpful and friendly!

Don't do it!

Posted Apr 7, 2017 on Hotels
The idea seems good.. stay in a nostalgic American icon. That's about all that was good. I also do not write much on blogs or websites but I had booked two nights and at daybreak I had to go tell management we were checking out. I explained the smell was terrible, the carpet needed to be cleaned or fumigated, the upholstery was torn and the drapes needed to be replaced. I understand it is an old boxcar and it is not insulated and this was a quick cold snap after being in the 70's all week..but why have 9 additional pillows and zero blankets? We had to use the mattress pad from the trundle bed to cover up and stay warm. I'm Sorry but for the same $$ we stayed at a early 60's retro decorated hotel closer to shopping that was absolutely wonderful. The ChooChoo SHOULD'VE been a great place to stay but it needs extreme renovations.
