Read House Chattanooga

Posted Mar 22, 2017
Pros: I love history so I love that this old hotel has been preserved. I also like the location as it is close to many attractions.
Cons: Cleanliness of the furniture and carpet could be improved as well as taking care of guests request.
Location: Near Warehouse Row shopping, Bluff City Art district, Chattanooga Aquarium
Nice historic hotel. Staff very friendly. We had a suite in the historic side which was nice enough. There was a large red stain of something on the carpet near a chair that needed to be cleaned badly. After first day, housekeeping serviced our room but did not leave any washcloths. I called guest services who promised they would be sent right up. We never received. would have been nice if they had replenished the bottle water that was in the room the first day. If you like historic, this is ok. It is located near the Warehouse row and close to the Bluff View Art district as well as the Aquarium. All in all I would give it about a 301/2 to a 4.

Classy place

Posted Feb 26, 2017
I had a gr8 time. Staff was great from Ebony at the desk to all the valets. Amazing old building that's a joy to experience. Some whinny reviewers complained about everything from shower fittings to dinged door jams, but thats sour grapes. If you have to have every single thing brand new then don't pick a hotel with "historic" in the listing. I'll put this one in my "awesome opportunity" file. I loved it

Air conditioner in the wall!!!'

Posted Feb 22, 2017
In our room the air conditioner was in the wall the bed was attached to so it vibrated like crazy! My wife and I couldn't sleep there and had to sleep on the fold out couch. I told the staff and they said oh yeah some of the rooms are that way. I told them we had to sleep on the couch. They could've cared less. This place sucks don't come here.

Good amenities, tired building

Posted Feb 21, 2017
Pros: Nice work out amenities and pool
Cons: Cleanliness. And if they're not offering breakfast (which seems commonplace these days) hot coffee in the lobby would be nice
Location: Nice option is you're visiting Rock City and/or Lookout Mountain.
While I appreciated the "old world" charm of the building, and my children enjoyed the pool, I found the overall appearance of The Read House disappointing. The carpets were dirty and buckling (in both the corridors and guest rooms), the wallpaper was water stained and peeling off the walls (in both the corridors and guests rooms) and most of the surfaces felt dirty. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and comfy the bed was! Upon check-in our attendant failed to inform us that there are multiple elevator bays within the hotel and that ignorer to access our room a specific elevator needed to be used; a frustrating experience as I wandered around with five tired kids. The attendant also failed to provide us a sheet that I saw other guest received regrading hotel amenities, wifi, and local attractions.

Dear GG, Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. I am very sorry to hear that your stay at The Read House was not all it could have been, especially regarding the misinformation upon check-in. This should not have been your experience, and I'm sorry it was. I hope you were able to find some relaxation despite the inconveniences. Also, I am very glad to announce that many of the concerns you noted (wallpaper, stains, carpets) will be addressed during our 2017 renovation. We would love a second chance to wow you during your next trip to Chattanooga. It was a pleasure yourself and your family!

Repeat customer

Posted Feb 16, 2017
Neat, old hotel. Right in downtown Chattanooga, walking distance to a lot of great restaurants! Read House is just cozy and a feeling of being in the early 1900s. We love it. Staff is very pleasant and helpful. Bathroom tile floors could use some heavy scrubbing, but other things are clean. We will continue to try and stay here while in Chattanooga-AH
