Best time to go to Canberra
From December to January the city sees its peak season. These months are pleasant in terms of climate, but are packed with both locals and tourists taking part in the Christmas and New Years celebrations. Unless you book well in advance, this is a difficult time to find cheap flights to Canberra.
While most tourists are gearing up for the holidays, the adventurous visitor will take advantage of the pleasant climate and the inexpensive flights to Canberra from September through November. Although tourists are few during this period, it is still a great time to go, as you will be able to stroll round Lake Burley Griffin or explore the National Gallery in peace.
Flights are at their cheapest and crowds are at their thinnest between March and May. This is a great time to enjoy one of the many local events, such as the National Folk or the Celebrate Canberra festivals, or simply bask in the beautifully calm climate while hiking through Mount Majura or Mount Taylor.
