Location, location, location

Hotel wasn't glamorous and stylish. Was pretty standard. Which i knew. But for me, i chose this hotel based on its location. A short walk from times square and the empire state building. Subway was literally across the road/street. Easy to get around the city, for me this is what i wanted as i knew i wouldn't be spending much time at the hotel

stayed there several times

for its price, this old hotel still offers relative comfort and great location in this city. I would usually book into this hotel on visit to the city as long as they have rooms available for my dates.

Unsafe and Unclean: Barely Survived

Posted Aug 8, 2017
Pros: location
Cons: Elevators, cleanliness, ... everything to be honest
Location: no
First, let me say the staff was incredible. So kind and helpful on the phone beforehand, while the maid service was friendly and did a great job. Having said that, I can't believe I made it out alive! My elevator got stuck with way too many people on board this past Saturday night at about midnight. The buttons stopped working and no one could hear us banging from the door inside. It was terrifying, and the hotel provided no solution but just to "wait for the large crowd to pass" when I just wanted to go to bed!!!! And get to my room!! I had to wait almost 3 hours to get up safely. Exhausting... This happened to other groups i talked with throughout the weekend as well. I have been told this is "a usual occurrence at Hotel Penn" and "it's up to guests not to board too many people on the elevators at once." Granted, common sense is just that, but if the doors shut, it should be safe. Not, shut and notf unction for over 10 minutes while foreign children scream and cry for their lives! This is a SERIOUS safety concern. I tried to ask where the stairs were and was told they didn't exist, and some other excuses by staff, before finding them myself and climbing all 13 flights up and down each time I needed to leave the room. The light fixtures and surfaces of the room were deeply filthy, as were the carpets and blankets/sheets on the beds. I can say with certainty, I will never stay here again, despite the location and cost. If you value your life, I'd suggest the same.

Thank you for your recent feedback. I sincerely apologize on behalf of my team for the service shortfalls throughout your stay. These lapses are certainly not indicative of our hotel. We pride ourselves on kind, proactive and reliable service; and for your stay to fall short of these standards is disappointing, to say the least. I hope you will allow us an opportunity to restore your faith in the hotel. Warm regards,

Hotel Disappointment

Posted Aug 8, 2017
Pros: They had little snack stores downstairs.
Location: Empire State Bldg. Macy's, Lots of gifts to purchase, All the shopping that anyone can handle. If You, like walking , the area is great for shopping.
I was very disappointed, in the condition of the hotel. This is not fair to Your Company, because Your Company is GREAT, I recommend Expedia all the time for quality service. Please check the hotels that you advertise on a regular basis to make sure that they are using Your Name with quality and respect. I will still recommend Expedia. Mintzy Berry

Great location.

Posted Aug 8, 2017
Pros: Location and staff.
Cons: Some facilities inside the room such as the bathroom door and faucets.
Location: It is close to major shopping (Macys, Uniqlo, Zara, Levis...), two blocks to Koreatown, Madison Square Garden is just across the street.
The hotel location is very convenient. It is close to subway, restrurants, shopping, and entertainment venues. The area is always busy and feel safe. Staff are friendly and helpful. Wifi is decent. Room is quite spacious. Most facilities inside the room are recent and in good condition, but a few others (such as bathroom door and faucets) need repair.

Centrally Located Hotel

Posted Aug 8, 2017
Pros: Central location, close to eateries and bustling city scene.
Cons: Improvement of over-all hotel lobby, hallways and room toilets. Hotel is dying for a renovation.
Location: Next to Madison Square Garden, near Penn station, Empire State Building, Times Square.
Hotel location is the best asset of this hotel. Middle of NY city, close to subways and walking distance to Empire State Building and Times Square. Madison Square Garden is right in front of hotel. Only comment is the hotel is quite old and needs some refurbishment specially the toilets. Our room was kept neat daily. Their reception/concierge always has a long queue, no matter what time. A lot of people traffic when we went (July, peak season). Accommodation cost is reasonable compared to other NY city hotels. If you just want a place to stay at night and be centrally located, I will recommend this hotel.

Good location, but disgusting.

Posted Aug 6, 2017
Good location next to a couple of different metro lines, but the place was filthy. Walking on the carpets made your feet black. There was a half smoked cigarette in the cushion of a chair. There was mold in the AC. We got it for a really good price on Expedia, but we would never stay there again.
