Shangri-La does it right.
I highly recommend staying in a room with business lounge access. They provide a buffer breakfast, afternoon tea and buffer happy hour. A lovely stay.

Charge assessed by hotel after I returned to U.S.
We stayed at Shangri La Chengdu on March 27th, 2018. The stay was pleasant and the staff was very nice, as with most Shangri La hotels. We were also informed at check-in that the first round of the mini bar was free. We used the mini bar accordingly and there was no charge. We traveled to another city for 4 days and returned back to the same Shangri La hotel. This time, although we reserved the same club room, the room was a grade lower. No electric curtains, towels for only one person, etc. When I asked if the first round of mini bar would be free, I can tell that the staff reluctantly said yes. We used the mini bar slightly, just a little snack for my son. There was no mention of any charges for the mini bar at check out. However, Shangri La charged me $21 after I returned to the state. When I sent an email expressing the inappropriateness of the $21 charge. No response from the hotel. It's not so much the $21. It is the lacked of proper notice at check out and a lacked of professionalism. Basically, we had no say. I've traveled the world. This is not how other Shangri la hotels behave. Very disappointing.

Highly recommended
We enjoyed our visit to the Shangri-la very much. The staff upgraded our two rooms to a family suite which was a wonderful surprise. The hotel was clean and situated in a perfect location. We enjoyed the lounge for happy hour and the breakfast had an endless selection of foods from all over the world.

Fair and too commercial
It was ok, but too commercial. I booked two rooms, and requested a connected room, but the hotel did not aware that I have made the request when booking. Anyway, connected room was not available, and reception kept asking me to upgrade, but I rejected, then, the reception offered me another upgrade package which including breakfast, but it was expensive, so, I rejected again! I just felt too commercial! The hotel was a bit old, but location is convenient.

The Shangri-La is located in a beautiful area along the river and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. The breakfast in the lounge is quite extensive and good.

Another good Shangri-la hotel
Nice room with good view of Chengdu. Always a good product, regardless of city. I've not been disappointed with any Shangri-la property. Room service food was excellent as was wifi.

I would stay there again, good value. Friendly staff who speak English with dining and shopping locations nearby. Also within walking distance is the River Viewing Tower Park attraction.

Business Trip
Nice hotel conveniently located on the airport side of town but overrun with a corporate event that shutdown the two main restaurants. We ate both lunch and dinner in the lobby lounge and both times had to wait 45 to 60 minutes for our food to come. Staff unfortunately only had a very basic level of English so we struggled to make our order then had several return visits to repeat it (and even then one salmon order turned up as a steak). Check-in was also frustrating as people kept pushing him and the staff failed to police the queue. All round a bit frustrating.

For an international brand the operator needs to improve staff performance and English. Slow check in and we had a difficult time ordering food at the lobby lounge.

Very busy city so this is a great place to stay close to everything but nice and quite. Great base to go and see the pandas

We loved it.
Staff upgraded us to a room w windows galore on high floor when our AC wasnt working. We were in Horizon club which was well worth it, excellent service and food. Nice breakfast, excellent coffee! Super cozy beds. We had guide and driver each day so cant comment much on location. We did spend one afternoon at nearby shopping pedestrian street, quite amazing, just 10 minutes by taxi. Staff lovely, service was great, all in all, a great stay.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Shangri-la for three days to visit Chengdu. The hotel is in the center in walking distance from one of the big shopping areas in Chengdu and with easy access to the metro. There is a nice area to go out nearby along the river. Nice views over the city from the room.

Shangri-La has been my favorite hotel for years. Though each stay at this hotel gave me different experience. Mostly good, but not always. It all depends on who you run into during the stay. For this stay everything was good as usual except: 1. Hotel staff failed to recognize my Golden Circle Elite status upon check-in. This means I have to ask to get the benefits of frequent guests as promised by the hotel. 2. I got the smallest room this time. Probably due to the fact the room was a package including airfare from Expedia. The hotel can be unfriendly for budget travelers. I got better treatment if I book directly from the hotel web site. So, beware, the hotel possibly works against travel agency in order to maximize their revenue.

Brilliant basement bar entertainment!
We stayed in the Shangri-la as part of our honeymoon trip touring China and it was brilliant. Our room was upgraded to a river view for free, providing us with a beautiful outlook onto the spectacular restaurant bridge. The other side of the river was lined with bars and restaurants that really came alive at night but the best place to be was in Mooneys the Hotel's 'Irish Pub' where ladies night on Thursdays meant free wine and cocktails for women all evening and every night the current house band 'Remix' provided an absolutely excellent and entertaining show. All of the hotel staff were very helpful and the room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. On our last day we had lunch in the 'Cafe Z' which we had unfortunately arrived too late for the International Buffet but it looked outstanding and the lunch we ordered (Sichuan Soup) was delicious. Though the lounge bar on the reception floor is a bit pricey for a coffee or glass of wine it is a lovely place to have a peaceful sit down and look out across the river.
