From the photos we’d seen, we expected to find a lodge very much separated from any housing, so we were a bit surprised to see that it was right in the middle of a housing area. But it is located a very convenient distance from highways and also from the town of Waynesville.
The minute we walked in, the owner Jeff called out to us and welcomed us. He had been so kind and understanding when I had called a couple of days earlier, realizing I had mistakenly picked a non-pet-friendly room when we needed to bring our dog, and he said it was okay, they would take care of us. He welcomed us by name, and smiled, gave us all the information we needed, and took us to our room, checked the TV remotes, got the fireplace started. We immediately felt comfortable.
The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean and charming. Sadly, we were cold much of the time, which was due to weather that the owners couldn’t do a thing about. When the fireplace was on, we were able to get warm, but it would only stay on for a few minutes at a time. I’m sure that any other time aside from this incredibly cold spell, we would have been perfectly cozy. And it certainly was a treat to have a fireplace in the room.
Anytime we had a question, the owner jumped to help us out. When I asked about caffeine-free tea, he made sure to replenish the supply.
And what a treat the homemade breakfast was! Delicious!
The lodge was unexpected but charming, and a welcome change. Thank you!
