O'Henry's Getaway - Tail of the Dragon - Secluded Vacation Retreat Cheoah River

This cozy, rustic farmhouse is nestled on the banks of the scenic Cheoah River nine miles from Robbinsville, NC. It’s just a short nine mile drive to Deal's Gap (the starting point of the Tail of the Dragon - 318 curves in 11 miles).
If you are looking for a getaway – O’Henry’s is for you. It’s secluded but still only minutes to town on paved state roads. Enjoy your stay in this 100 year-old farmhouse located on 25 pristine privately-owned acres in the Smoky Mountains. The 1,038 square foot house is surrounded by undeveloped property on the banks of the Cheoah River. There is a massive wrap-around porch on the front, side and rear of the house where you can relax and sip your iced tea as you escape the troubles of a far away world.
There is a babbling stream adjacent to the house and a fire pit perfect for those mountain evenings (firewood available). Gas grill provided outside.
The Cheoah River is a top location for kayaking. The output of the Santeetlah Dam is increased on specific days (see details below) to create up to Class IV-V rapids. O’Henry’s is located at the top of the 9 mile kayak run ending at Tapoco Lodge. NOTE: There is a parking area in front of the property used by those kayaking the river. There is ample private parking behind the house. There is a two-car lockable garage – perfect for bikes or kayaking gear.

Please note the $200 security deposit is REFUNDED after your stay.

O’Henry’s is located ten minutes from Robbinsville, NC with restaurants, a pharmacy (Walgreens) and a major grocery store (Ingle's). Nearby attractions include the majestic Joyce Kilmer National Forest, Cherokee Nation, Cherohala Skyway, Great Smoky Mountain National Park and many others. Satellite TV (DishNetwork) and WiFi available. Cell phone service is available in and near the house.
Please note: the house has two window AC units located in the kitchen and living room (see floor plan in photographs). There is a gas fired heater in the living room. There is no central HVAC system.
The farmhouse has been in the same family for generations and its current owners live in nearby Robbinsville. The owners personally provide the housekeeping services and are available to answer any questions.
We hope you choose O’Henry’s Getaway for your Smoky Mountain vacation.

O’Henry is a Farmhouse Paradise
This is the second time we have stayed at O’Henry’s. Jean and Mackie are wonderful hosts. The house is spotless, the kitchen is well stocked, and I love the bathroom. Mackie keeps the wood for the fire pit stocked and the water from the creek is relaxing. This is a great location!

The property is well maintained, clean, and easy to find. The two car garage out back was great for our motorbikes at night. We enjoyed the campfire in the evenings after sitting on the porch out front. Our hosts have done an excellent job setting up this rental property, everything we needed from kitchen appliances to chair cushions was available for our use. Thanks so much Mackie and Jean. We will definely be back. Btw the welcome cookies were a nice surprise.
