You often see painters, or the occasional yogi around the tidal basin, but this is the first time I've seen a mermaid. #cherryblossoms The cemetery was absolutely huge! I only had time for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the resting places of some of the Kennedys because it was absolutely freezing out. It is a very serene and thoughtful place to stroll through though. You can also take tours on a coach if you don't want to walk the whole way. It really is huge! Cherry blossom weekend at Washington DC I have never been so impressed with a monument to a single man before While I was busy shooting the monument, my son keeps telling me to turn around and look at President Lincoln. Was I ever glad I did! The sunset was magnificent! My son's reply when I thanked him? Sunrise at Cherry Blossom trees lining Washington DC's Tidal Basin burst into color in a beautiful display of floral fireworks. One more fireworks shot. It didn't take much time to figure out how to take good fireworks shots, just learn your camera settings. My first year I went here, I simply asked a few photographers and they spent some time with me and helped me out immensely. Try the same. During the peak bloom of the cherry blossoms in Washington, DC, there are plenty of things to do and see.
A note to travelers: the tidal basin is a lovely, rounded area that provides gorgeous views of major landmarks: the Martin Luther King memorial, the Washington memorial, and the Jefferson memorial. On the basin, you can take out paddle boats to get more intimate with the water and surroundings, or you can walk the well-worn paved path that edges the water.
In parts, this path has a sturdy railing that prevents onlookers from falling in. In most areas, there isn't such structures. You also have low points that completely fall under water when there's high tide so look out for muddy areas!

#iconicplaces Reagan International I'd been to DC a few times so, by the time we lived there, I felt I had seen all of the memorials... and when you live in DC, you don't really go to the touristed areas...especially in the summer.
The Korean War Memorial I actually hadn't visited and I finally got around to it when a friend from Boston insisted that we Beautiful post-sunrise spot ... Fountains go on just after 6 AM Lincoln Memorial at dusk Quiet, Peaceful, Beautiful Arlington National Cemetery Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport's terminals B and C opened in 1997 and was designed by architect Cesar Pelli. I've always loved the high arches and bright colors. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The terminal provides 100 ticket counters, 12 baggage claims, three piers where airline gates are located and a passenger connector the Terminal A. To enhance the spacious, passenger friendly environment, the terminal offers an unparalleled view of the Nation’s Capital and works of art from 30 artists are incorporated into the structure of the terminal using various designs –glass, marble, mosaic, terrazzo, murals, balustrades and sculpture.
Renowned architect Cesar Pelli designed a Washington landmark that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Pelli’s design included a large window overlooking airport operations and the Washington, D.C. skyline, and the building is adorned with 54 “Jeffersonian” domes that establish a connection with the architecture of the region.

Day trip to Washington DC Cherry blossom at its peak Awesome sunny day Canada geese in Washington, DC. I've taken thousands of photos over the years of the cherry blossoms here in DC. Every year I try to find something new to see, like discovering over time the perfect spot to get the best golden light near sunset. The only thing I've yet to do...sunrise shots ( I am so not a morning person.) This photo is from 2013. #cherryblossoms While DC has about a dozen varieties of cherry blossom trees, the majority that line the tidal basin are the fluffy, white, cloud-like kind. Gorgeous DC view from the Arlington House. The house is located right inside the Arlington National Cemetery which is at the top of the hill. It was the home of the Confederate general Robert E. Lee and his family. You can tour the house for free as well.

A great man who left a huge impact on our country. View from MLK statue #lifeatexpedia Springtime is in the air when cherry blossom trees in Washington, DC reached its beautiful peak bloom time. And every year, with over a million visitors, the district celebrates its award winning National Cherry Blossom Festival (mid-March to mid-April) with pure delight and bliss.
Enjoy diverse events such as: Opening Ceremony, Pink Tie Party, the Parade, Kite Festival, Fireworks Festival, Stage Performances and Concerts, Culinary and Food Truck Fest, Sakura Taiko Fest, Sakura Matsuri Japanese Fest, Anacostia River Fest, Cherry Blast, Freedom Run and Walk, Japanese Film Fest, Newseum Nights, and local communities/neighborhood events. Check with official festival website for detailed schedule of events.
Brief Historical Background:
The annual festival commemorates Japan's 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees, and honors the lasting friendship and continued close relationship between the US and Japan.
Popular Recommendations for Visitors:
1. Tidal Basin (a walk away from the obelisk) - enjoy the pageantry of pink and white blossoms, visit early in the morning to avoid the crowd.
2. The Parade - along Constitution Ave.
3. Sakura Matsuri Japanese Fest (M Street & New Jersey Avenue) - enjoy Japanese American cuisine, live performances, etc.
#Festival Although they get their glory in Spring when the blossoms are blooming, the cherry trees are just as stunning in Autumn. WA Monument with cherry blossoms! Made a quick stop at Jefferson Memorial on my run. Erin and I were married here almost 3 years ago. It just requires a permit from the National Park and was the perfect venue. @lens4change Touring the monuments at night Friday was a great way to start the weekend in DC with friends in town from Montreal. #deathtoselfiesticks The metro is a safe, clean and efficient way for tourists to zigzag across D.C.
Combined with the bus system, you can access nearly every tourist destination in short order.
Get a SmaTrip card, load it with about $20 and that should get you through the weekend.
Heads up though, unlike the Ventra card in Chicago, you cannot tap a SmarTrip card for multiple entries to the same station. Each person traveling needs their own card. D.C. Trip 2004. #TroveOnTuesday

Gadsby's Tavern was built in 1785 The Washington DC cherry blossoms at sunrise No better place to spend 4th of July than in DC. Right next to the Iwo Jima Memorial is the Netherlands Carillon that has a large expanse of open grass and open skies where you get this classic DC shot. Better yet, it has far fewer people than on the National Mall. DC in fall is spectacular. The Korean War memorial usually feels quite understated; with the fall colors it came alive. The Korean War memorial is a striking reminder of a piece of US history. It is located just south of the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall and is easily accessible. The life-sized statues give a deeper meaning to what the soldiers must have gone through to those of us who don't know much about the war. Head there early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid crowds of tour-bus visitors. Another memorial that is a must visit while you are in Washington DC. These statues are so well done with so much detail. Another piece of history to be remembered. #Green

Ultimate Sacrifice! A side profile of the Jefferson Memorial statue. All the memorials are so well done and I could easily spend a few days walking round them all and taking in the statues, information and history. We had an amazing time touring round Washington DC on the hop on hop off bus, easily the best way to see everything in this fantastic city. If you want tickets to go to the top you have to get to the ticket counter at 730 am and they open at 8am. They only sell tickets for that day. #weekendgetaway Arlington National Cemetery is a United States military cemetery across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. The cemetery's 624 acres are divided into 70 sections to bury the dead of the nation's conflicts.
The cemetery was established during the Civil War. Vacations are fun, but a number of places in D.C. like Arlington National Cemetery, The Holocaust Museum and many of the war memorials should provoke a more solemn and respectful behavior from its visitors.
