Excellent Hotel

Pros: Location, friendliness, cleanliness, snacks provided, great breakfasts, nice guest laundry room.
Cons: Needs a new TV in our room. They worked on it several times, but still would freeze and shut off.
Location: Convenient and QUIET! We loved it.
We stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very quiet location with no outside road noise. The room was comfortable - loved the walk-in shower and big bathroom. The staff were awesome, GM checked with us often during breakfast to see if we had any issues. The breakfast was great with a different menu each day. We will definitely stay in other Hampton Inns.

Wonderful Staff - Hampton Inn Richmond Chester

My husband & I arrived the evening of Oct. 13th, where we were greeted pleasantly by the concierge on staff. We checked in & were given keys to RM 223. When we initially got to the room, we thought that this couldn’t really be a Hampton Inn. The room was dark/dreary, there were stains on the chairs & the bathroom was nasty (specifically the ceiling with brown stains.) We went to complain & were quickly calmed down by two young women Nikki & Jazmine. They jumped through hoops to make us feel better from offering & showing us another room, reducing our two-night stay fee, & even offering to place us in another hotel. We didn’t accept the room shown (RM 104) that night because it was an accessible room. We felt it wouldn’t be appropriate to stay in it. So, Nikki and Jazmine offered to leave a note to have the concierge on staff the morning of Saturday, Oct. 14th find us a different room, which they did. We went to the front desk the next morning & worked with Tonya, Velma and Sade. Awesome!!!! They didn’t hesitate to help. No questions! Just wanted to make us happy! We ended up in room 137 which was much better. Between the noisy guests & RM 223 issues, our only saving grace for our stay at the Hampton Inn Richmond Chester were the members of your staff…TONYA, VELMA, SADE, NIKKI & JAZMINE. Each of them went above & beyond!

Not at all up to Hampton Inn standards. Smelly room. Broken tiles in bathroom with 1" wide caulking covering gaps. Shower rod loose and hanging down. Tired and worn property

Don't go for pool

The room was OK. We got a 1 bedroom suite. The air worked great in the bedroom but there was barely any air flow in the kitchen/living room area,so it got warm over night with the door closed. Also, they advertise that they have an outdoor pool, this is false, they share the pool at a comfort in about 2-300 yards away,and that pool was only about 10-20 ft. After 7 hrs in a car we were looking forward for some relaxation by a pool. Very disappointed in this. Breakfast was fair at best.

The room was not cleaned very well. We found a large wet spot on the floor along with popcorn kernels. We also found a dirty pair of children's shorts under the chair in our room. We returned these to the front desk.

Avoid this Hampton

This place is not up to Hampton standards. We overheard another unhappy visitor being told that Hampton had just acquired the property and they were doing their best to upgrade it. She then said, "Well, the price should reflect that". And she was right. The AC removed no humidity, so everything was damp. The bathroom was as small an uninviting as any in any hotel I have ever stayed it. The room itself was very small, too. Like something one would find in a space deprived locale, like New York or Key West. But this is Chester, Va., for goodness sake. The furniture was banged up, there was no closet, on and on. The breakfast area was pleasant and next to the "lobby" desk there was a nice coffee bar with excellent coffee. The staff were uniformly gracious. Too bad they are stuck in this place. There are numerous choices at this I-95 stop and I would suggest avoiding this one.
