A mixed bag

Posted Feb 12, 2017
The hotel is fairytale from the outside but rather a hotchpotch inside: beautiful tapestry curtains hang alongside fake flowers and some dodgy neon lighting, as well as some rather nasty cheap 'art'. On the plus side, the staff are delightful and the beds comfortable. On the downside, the bathrooms are reminincesent of a premier in (without the budget price tag to match); all of the toiletries are bolted to the wall, there's a shampoo/conditioner combo which is like fairy liquid. In short, there is not one scrap of luxury to be had. Very, very disappointing. Beware also the late checkout fee of £25 an hour: not relaxing on a Sunday morning.

Over all a very pleasant stay at a historic building only gripe was that you could hear an outside door banging as people came and went throughout the night ok if your a heavy sleeper. Other than that excellent food and staff very friendly and helpful we were also treated with carol singer's and bagpipes wonderful.

Fabulous hotel

Posted Nov 6, 2016
Pros: The bed was really comfortable and the breakfast was excellent.
Location: Very close to Chester le street which has a few pubs and restaurants. Close to Durham for the Cathedral which is beautiful and worth a visit.
Exactly as it said on the website. Couldn't fault anything.

Beautiful castle

Posted Oct 26, 2016 on Hotels
It wasn't just a bed for the night, it was an experience. Very exciting staying in a real castle, apart from the creaky floorboards. The staff wear medieval outfits and modern conveniences have been chosen to fit in S's well as possible to keep the atmosphere. Recommend staying in the castle not the courtyard, just for the experience. Again, if you want the experience, it is worth booking a deluxe room, they are unique and fit the "no ordinary hotel" theme.

Beautiful Place to Stay

Beautiful hotel and room. About 15 minutes from the sea. Parking was close to the rooms if you get there early.

Great nights stay in a very comfortable bed.

Another great nights sleep in their very comfortable beds. Stayed in the castle this time rather that the courtyard, and the place is full of character (700 year old castle).
