Excellent - YES we would go back. 4.5 stars.

Posted Nov 15, 2016
Pros: Staff were friendly, courteous, and made us feel welcome. The grounds are straight our of a picture book - Wonderful!
Cons: Bathrooms were "OK." Could use a little updating.
Location: Plenty of wineries, small villages, restaurants, and Florence and Sienna are just a short drive away.
We are very frequent travelers who have never been to the Villa il Poggiale before and loved it. We visited in late September - not too hot and the evenings were cool. Perfect time to go. Federica, Irene, and the entire staff were absolutely wonderful from arranging our to/from airport transportation to making us feel at home. The grounds were lovely, although the pool was not heated in late September. We had breakfast everyday at the Villa - the chef does a wonderful job. They have a simple menu for dinner, and a couple of times we stayed in the Villa for dinner and wine. We found the dinners to be quiet enjoyable. Even their house wines (which is on the honor system and chosen by the staff) were all excellent. We had a full suite which has plenty of room to relax with a semi-private porch outside. Our traveling companions had a junior suite which also had plenty of room. Now the "OK" news: The bathrooms could be updated. They are OK, but could use some refreshing - more modern amenities and some contractor work perhaps. But this is a minor gripe compared to the overall experience. This is a very, very nice Villa in the heart of Tuscany. Think if it as a larger bed and breakfast but short of a full resort. If you can splurge, go with at least a junior suite, and rent a car in Florence to explore the countryside. Yes, we would go back. Thank you Villa iL Poggiale!

Sadly we only stayed one night

Posted Jun 18, 2015
Pros: Ornate ceilings, honestly bar, high comfy bed, castle furnishings. Staff were so kind and helpful.
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect.
Location: We checked in, had dinner, slept, had breakfast and then had to catch a train sadly. Didn't get to visit village. There was a huge pool at the house.
What a gem, in the heart of the countryside, overlooking vineyards and the Chianti hills. This beautiful 14th century grand house is only 17klms from Florence. We only stayed one night on our way back to Florence. We wished we could have stayed longer. It was like walking into a period drama or a grand museum. We loved it. We felt like royalty sitting in the large sitting room, having a drink from the honesty bar, after a delicious dinner. Very sad leaving the next morning. Promised myself I would return.

Tuscan retreat

Posted Oct 19, 2014
Pros: The overall Tuscan setting, pool and quality of the breakfast
Cons: Less potpourri in the room, otherwise nothing really.
If you are looking for a Tuscan villa away from the crowds this is for you. Personally, we were with a family so it wasn't perhaps the right fit but that is not a criticism of the Villa. The breakfast was impeccable. The food was locally sourced and fresh (the eggs were perfect), the rooms large and traditional rather than modern. They were very clean although with a slightly overbearing smell of potpourri. The views at breakfast were superb, the setting the classic Tuscan landscape, and the pool was clean and inviting. Only drawbacks were that you need a car to get around, and there were not many other local restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Overall good though.

We loved it!

Posted May 30, 2014
Cons: The internet was weak but we weren't there to surf the web.
I can't say enough about our stay at Villa Il Poggiale! The scenery, accommodations, and service made our trip very enjoyable. Monica and staff were very helpful with information about the area. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious breakfast every morning before going out. At the end of the day, we looked forward to sitting outside, overlooking the tuscan hills with a bottle of wine before dinner. We traveled as a family and Suite 19 was perfect! A small apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. On the first day we didn't have hot water but before I could speak to someone it was already being fixed. My husband and I hope to return again.

Disappointing stay

Posted Aug 24, 2013
Pros: Nice surroundings and pretty views.
Cons: Room standard.
Having read all the great reviews about the villa we were very much looking forward to our 3 night stay. The villa is nicely located, has a swimming pool and nice surroundings. However the rooms are of a massive need of an upgrade. We booked superior room which turned out to be small, quite dark, had some damp problem in walk in wardrobe space and had a very basic en-suite. One would definitely expect more from the price paid and the plush pictures shown on the website! On reflection I don't even think we were given a superior room. Also if you are a light sleeper don't expect great rest at night as there is a lots of noise coming from the nearby road pretty much 24/7. The breakfast was nice but the selection was quite average (if compared to other cheaper villas in tuscany that we stayed in). Overall will not be coming back and would not recommend.

Dear Sirs, We are so sorry for all the inconvenient you are listing: as for the darkness, all ancient Tuscan villas are not very luminous. Your bedroom was a Superior 30 mq large and usually clients like the bathroom with tub and separate shower. AS for the noise you are quite right: it’s difficult even for us to accept the road nearby which use to be totally uncrowded and it is now full of traffic. A new road is in progress and so it will be better in the near future. We really hope to welcome you again. Best regards Villa il Poggiale Team

Beautiful villa in the heart of Tuscany

Posted Jul 12, 2013
Location: If you are planning to drive around Tuscany, this is a great location. Sienna and San Gianano are only an hour away; Assisi 2 hours, and many others.
We recently stayed here for 8 days while on vacation in Tuscany. It was conveniently located right outside of San Casciano in the heart of Tuscany. The villa's staff was very attentive and professional. The room, a junior suite, was large and beautiful. The entire villa was beautiful, in fact, and very well maintained. There were many patios and other sitting areas on the grounds with lovely gardens surrounding them. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Wonderful! This is thee place to stay.

Posted Jul 6, 2013
Pros: We loved everything. The staff was helpful, with old world manners and top customer service without being pretentious.
Cons: Perhaps a few more chairs and umbrellas for the pool area.
Location: We found a nearby do it yourself laundry near center of town one afternoon which was great since we were on an extended tour through Italy.
Everything was wonderful - a pleasure for all senses. We travel frequently around the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia and I can say without hesitation that this place is not only excellent in quality, service and ambience, but great value. Visually a feast for the eyes, both within the property and surrounding views. Our room was beautiful with lovely rugs, decor and super comfy sheets and bedding. The room and hotel even smelled amazing, with fresh floral scent or around meal time, we were blessed with lovely aromas from the kitchen. Lovely relaxing music played at a perfect volume in the large sitting room. Outdoors, you could enjoy silence in the evening or birds in the daytime while enjoying the panoramic view at breakfast tables or near the pool. Breakfast was good quality, fresh food. We opted for dinner in town during our 2 night stay so cannot comment on restaurant although the menu looked good. Location is excellent if you have a car. Close to Florence, Volterra, San Gimignano, Siena, etc. Lovely small roads to explore all around.

Wunderschöne alte Villa mit Charme

Posted Oct 17, 2016
Tolle Lage, wunderschöner Garten und Pool. Nettes Personal. Das Frühstück könnte für den Preis etwas reichhaltiger sein.
