A great old hotel with large rooms. Loved it! Oak Park is very walkable with access to shops and dining.

The Carlton Hotel is a lovely property, but a bit outdated. The staff was fine. The hotel could do with some enthusiasm and boosting of local tourism. It has a unique spot since there’s not really any good hotels in Oak Park. They should have happy hours and also have breakfast in the morning or at least host it at the poor Phil’s.

Very run down old super hot room . Black female sitting in back on phone waited 13 min to check in she saw us but remained on phone . Thin walls door didn’t seal . Unsafe

Headboard and table had very obvious dust on them- but the bathroom was very clean, and room was nicely tidy. Staff not able to assist on creating a comfortable temperature in our rooms (family members also has stays here), and when attempting to purchase bottled water from vending machine, only received diet pepsi, which was flat and out of date by nearly a year. Despite the age of building it was nicely quiet, and a conveniently close option to hop on the train.

The place has personality. Our room had high ceiling, a little dining area and kitchen with a microwave fridge, blackout curtains and a king bed, all useful and such delightful old style, nothing sterile about it, although it was clean and modern where it counted. And reasonable rates. Loved going downstairs to the pub/restaurant and having great food in a friendly atmosphere.

Historical hotel but exceptionally clean. Extremely convenient to shopping and the El without hearing the El. The hotel is handicap accessible with necessary lifts but historic design does make some of the accessibility features slightly inconvenient.

There were minor things about the room: the tub didn't drain when I was showering, the alarm clock made a hissing noise until I unplugged it. The big problem was that the fire alarm went off intermittently starting at 8am, because (according to the front desk) they were testing the system. At 8am? Without warning guests? Two of us were in the hallway trying to figure out if the building was on fire. I called the desk to learn about the "testing," asked why we weren't told, and was told they don't have an intercom. So they were caught off guard and didn't bother to tell me at check-in the night before? "Oh, by the way, don't bother trying to sleep in." Or, I don't know, test your fire alarms at 1pm, between guests checking out and checking in. Seriously sub-par experience.

A beautiful older hotel in a very quaint but busy area. The hotel was liking stepping back in time. The room was very nice like a old time apartment done into a very nice hotel room. The staff was very friendly and there is a sports bar and restaurant that anchor each side of the hotel.

An Oasis in Oak Park
The Carleton was just what I expected, and so much more! The Staff was welcoming and responded positively to every request. I will definitely stay there again!

Overall, I had a nice stay. The staff was helpful and very professional. I did have a small issue with the plumbing. Apparently, while I was gone during the day, water backed up through the sink and overflowed onto the floor to the point that it reached the carpet just outside the bathroom. As I was checking out the next morning and needed to get to bed right away, I let the staff know, but declined a maintenance call. I feel confident that they will have resolved the issue after I checked out, and this would not affect my staying with them in the future.

This was the perfect place to stay. Restaurants, CTA, grocery stores, parks, shopping, and family all in walking distance. The hotel consists of 3 different buildings: The main Carleton and the Plaza Hotel are joined and there is a separate motor lodge. We had a king in the Plaza. The room was spacious with a small kitchenette (microwave, refrigerator, pod coffee maker, dishes and utensils). The bed was incredibly comfortable. There’s also 2 restaurants - fancy Italian and basic pub - on ground floor that you can charge to the room.
