Hotel Zero

Posted Sep 21, 2017
Pros: Staff at the nearby restaurant were fabulous. Gloria and the morning desk staff were great.
Cons: Everything.
Location: 10 minutes from the University. It was the only available hotel, not worth it.
I had to take photos of the interior of the room in order to get a room change the following morning. The evening staff was indifferent and thought it was amusing. We could not sleep and requested housekeeping to leave us extra sheets to cover floor, bed and furniture that had not been cleaned. We also kept a canister of disinfectant and cleaned out own room.

NO DRINKING WATER! Front desk staff - unhelpful

Posted Sep 14, 2017
Pros: It is on the shorefront.
Cons: furniture is old and unkept (see pictures); rundown appliances
Location: Far away from downtown; nice location in the shore front.
There is no way of getting a glass of drinking water (except if you want to drink tap water), not even if you want to buy it! They refer you to go get your water to the next door "La Quinta" hotel which are not helpful either and deny to have water. Frontdesk staff in general is unhelpful and quite unfriendly.

We apologize for the inconvenience however our front desk staff and I did our best to help with the water situation, we don't have a water fountain at lake shore lobby due to our lobby being very small. The tap water is clean and most of our guest do indeed drink tap water , our service is always very kind . But we do appreciate the review .

nice area, poor service

Posted Aug 26, 2017
I stayed in this reasonably priced motel right next to the lake and walking distance to Hyde Park for 2 nights. Check-in was not pleasant. The receptionist ignored me for a long time while helping someone booking an event and was generally not very polite or friendly. No apology for the wait. My key card stopped working after the first night. Again no apology. Staff needs basic customer service training. Room was ok but deadbolt didn't engage. Pool was closed. No microwave. Decor not very appealing. If you want be on the south lakeshore and are on a budget this may be a good choice. My first time in Chicago so I'm not sure what the standard should be.

Acceptable hotel

Posted Aug 16, 2017
Pros: Near the lake in Hyde Park. Free parking. $8 restaurant breakfast buffet coupons.
Cons: Add a fridge in the rooms. A bit overpriced due to the laws of supply and demand. Windows can't be opened - not even a little bit.
Location: Right next Lake Shore Drive in Hyde park, Walk to 53rd St.
Hotel and rooms were pretty basic. No fridge or microwave in the rooms. Minimal lobby, but you can use the LaQuinta lobby next door for wifi. Pool was shut down. Free parking. No breakfast in the lobby but front desk has $8 coupons for a breakfast buffet at the restaurant next door. Located right by the lake in Hyde Park.

Perfect place for a weekend in Chicago

Posted Aug 10, 2017
Pros: close to downtown clean rooms price free shuttle service to the city
Cons: maybe a different breakfast menu day to day working pool more ice machines
Location: super close to downtown, nice quiet area.
I stayed here for the lollapalooza weekend and for the price, and location this place can't be beat!! Its definitely not a super fancy hotel but if all you need is a place to lay your head down after a visiting the city it is perfect. The breakfast buffet is awesome too!! Wish the pool worked but other than that loved this hotel.

Good location but...

Posted Aug 4, 2017
We came to Chicago for one day (soccer game at Soldier field). I was planning to stay close enough to take taxi or uber from our hotel and save some money to not to park at parking place at Soldier field ($49.00 per car) and not to drive in traffic. And actually that wat exactly we did. Location of this hotel is perfect (8 minutes drive to Soldier field). Staff were really friendly! But hotel itself is not good. Small room, dirty carpet and dirty room. When we arrived power was off.

Thank your for staying with us, we do apologize for the power outage . The whole Hyde park beach area went down and we tried our best to get the power back. But we truly appreciate the patience .

It was just OK.

Posted Jul 31, 2017
Room generally seemed clean, but, carpet was questionable. Mattress was new and comfortable. Was missing bath towels, and it took house keeping over an hour to get us any in the morning (too late -- had to go). No convenience outlets to plug in phone chargers. Aged/worn furniture. Hallway carpet was stained, cut, and pulling off the stairs. For the price, I hoped for better.
