Problems at Hampton Inn Chicago

2 out of 5

Pros: Breakfast was good. Location just off Michigan Ave. is very convenient.
Cons: There should not be numerous mechanical issues at this hotel that are not being addressed by the staff.
Location: Closer to restaurants and shopping within walking distance.
One of the three elevators for a 40 story hotel was not working for the entire weekend stay at this hotel causing a 20-30 minute wait to catch a down elevator (most of the time full by the time they got to our floor) or forcing us to walk down 17 flights of stairs to get to the lobby or breakfast. This was really a problem when we had luggage and needed to check out. Staff didn't seem to care much about inconveniences to multiple guests. One of our two rooms was not sufficiently clean and the heat and TV remote were not functioning when we checked in. My guest had to wait an hour for maintenance to fix these problems. Our shower had a portable shower head (not an affixed head) that was improperly aimed so you had to take it off the rod to properly lather up and rinse. This hotel is not acceptable for a Hilton property particularly at this prime location. Fortunately we paid a reduced room rate in February. If we had stayed here in the summer when the rates are two to three times higher, we would have requested a reduced rate due to the inconveniences.

Love the common/breakfast area -- we had a large group meeting friends from different states and were able to gather easily in this area!

Pros: Love the large breakfast/gathering room - we were there with a group and it was great to have a place to hang out together.
We were there with a group for a weekend getaway. The hotel was close to everything, had very spacious and comfortable rooms, with very comfortable beds. We loved the large gathering room ~ we have a few free hours in the afternoon and sat and played cards and relaxed without squeezing into someone's room or feeling like we were disturbing other guests.

Pros: disappointed
Cons: staff, room service, bathroom
Location: good location.
i wasn't too pleased and asked to speak to staff and no one helped me. I was there for business and on a time crunch. i couldn't get hot water for 2 days because the knob was jammed then i told the cleaning staff no one helped i called front desk and he said call back at 9 in the morning thats when staff gets here. secondly i had blood on my pillow cases...very disgusting. also check in took more than 30 min to check in which is horrible because i had just got off my flight was tired and wanted to get straight to bed...i need a refund on this stay.... i called the front desk twice and the phone wouldn't take me there i hit Zero and got someone in some other state he said he would connect me and i waited 15 minutes before i hung up. i then walked down for breakfast and didnt see anyone at the counter...when checking out i waited 10 min and the lady from homewood suites came and checked us out...

3 room reservation

Pros: Location, cleanliness
Cons: Room preparation
Location: One half block to Michigan Ave, walk-able to shops and restaurants.
This reservation was made Oct 12 for a two night stay in January. When reserving I put in the notes a request for the rooms to be on the same floor. I called before Christmas with the same request and was assured that was not a problem. Upon arrival however I was informed that 2 rooms would be on one floor, the third 4 floors down. I was told that the cleaning staff did not clean our room so it wasn't ready and that the staff left for the day at 4:30. I said that was not acceptable and had to be corrected. (And I have to admit, I wasn't the nicest person at that point). How does a business not prep for their incoming guests, just didn't get it. Ashley, the hotel clerk was absolutely fantastic. She managed to get us on the same floor by upgrading one of the rooms at no extra charge. Beyond that, the stay was fabulous. Friendly staff, very comfortable beds, great environment, close (1/2 block) to Michigan Ave. Loved it and would definitely stay again and recommend.

Pros: The room was huge, and the bathroom was also roomy, and the bed was the most comfortable I had ever slept in, in a hotel.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Location was great, we came to shop and that's just what we did, water tower place was only 3 blocks away, not to mention all the other stores.
Very pleased with this Hampton, front desk personnel were very pleasant, our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but they took our bags and locked them up in a secure room, and we had the rest of the afternoon to shop the mile!!
