Very Disappointing...

Posted Jul 23, 2012
Pros: Location was great and they provided delicious cookies
Cons: Everything else...room, service, noise
Location: Right by the river, great view
This place is over-rated. Nothing too exciting in the rooms, fairly expensive and not really worth it. The cookies they left us were good and the location is great for St. Charles, other than that, I don't have much good to say about the place. We were lucky enough to get a room by the elevator which provided a conduit for all noise on the lower floors. A very short girl assisted us with our check out and she seemed excited to get people out of the hotel... Go to the Herrington in Geneva, a little pricier, but a MUCH nicer hotel. The city of St. Charles was GREAT however had a lot of fun the night we visited....

Old World Charm

Posted Nov 3, 2011
Location: St. Charles is small and you can walk the area in one afternoon. Visit the town of Geneva (10 minutes away) for antiques and charming restaurants. Take a tour on the Fox River paddleboats.
This hotel was perfectly located. With a view of the Fox River our suite was ideal. The only real negative was that there is no room service for breakfast and the hotel continental breakfast is very basic. If you like sweet rolls and cereal, it's ok. We were in St. Charles for just a couple of days and didn't have a car. We found antique shops just a few blocks from the hotel and charming restaurants. We took a cab one day to the neighboring town of Geneva where numerous boutique shops and antique stores provided hours of fun. The cab ride was $10 -- a bargain. The hotel restaurant was pleasant but food was average at best. The hotel itself is a wonderful look into the past with fabulous decor and warmth. We loved it! Not sure why other reviews were negative. We would definitely recommend this hotel as the best option in this area.
