I must confess, my experience at the Intercontinental Chicago was not what I expected -- and in a good way. I've had occasion to stay at a number of hotels in the area and all have been pretty upscale and modern. This one, however, has some historic charm. The room was big and comfortable. Nice sitting area and a comfortable work area, too. The layout was very functional. Still, relative to the other hotels it seemed a little "old". That's not a bad thing. Part of the beauty of Chicago is the wonderful architecture and the sense of place one can only find in Chicago. When I say the Intercontinental seemed a little old, I mean old as in tradition and place, and therefor its charm. Quite frankly, that's a big bonus and while I will definitely move this hotel to the top of my list when staying in Chicago again. There's something about it that just says, "Chicago" to me, and I truly enjoyed it.
It would be unforgiveable not to mention the wonderful hotel staff. Check-in and out were the extremely easy and the staff was very informative about the hotel amenities and surrounding area. They, too, were part of the charm of the Intercontinental. I would heartily recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to experience the true essence of Chicago.
