FANTASTIC

The historic Drake hotel was fantastic. I love every moment of the stay at the Drake Hotel. We were greeted with water and helpful staff. The parking situation was not that clear but it was resolved and taken care of by the end of the trip. Overall, I would give my experience a 10/10.

Favorite place to stay while in Chicago

Posted Aug 24, 2015
This was our 7th time staying at the Drake. Unfortunately it was the worst. Although we love this hotel, it pains me to write negative comments. This is the first time I have negative comments from the room to room service. Our room was a family suite. The room itself was beautiful. However, the drain in the tub didn't work well so essentially you took a bath while taking a shower. Called down to request it be fixed and nothing was done. The staff would knock once and just walk into your room. It got ridiculous. We would just get up to answer the door and the person refilling the bar would just walk in. Finally, after two days in a row of this we put out the do not disturb sign up. Room service was horrendous. They didn't get the order right, sent food to the room after explaining there was a severe allergy in the room not to send strawberries on anything and they sent them on three of four plates. Half the food was missing as well. We did call down immediately and it was taken care of. However, we waited an hour for the first delivery. The Drake is my favorite hotel in Chicago, we've stayed in many. But this one time unfortunately just didn't meet its typical standards.

Pros: Staff customer service was impeccable! Beautiful hotel treated very well by all.
Location: Felt as though the hotel was close to everything. We walked everywhere we went.
Chicago and The Drake Hotel were absolutely fabulous. They are very much about catering to the guest. All staff members were very delightful to interact with. I plan to return for another visit to Chicago and to the Drake Hotel.

A classic hotel with reasonable pricing.

I was thoroughly satisfied with my stay at the Drake Hotel. The location was ideal (along the Magnificient Mile and within a few blocks from Lake Michigan). The historic setting and service is impeccable. My only gripe was a bar that seemed overwhelmed at times, but otherwise I would definitely book at this venue again.

Lovely hotel, slightly off-key

Posted Aug 16, 2015
Pros: Location, staff
Cons: See above
Location: Beautiful location overlooking Oak Street Beach and Lake Michigan, public cycles for hire, good (i.e. expensive) shops but food all of the same qualit
The Drake is a great Chicago icon, still a beautiful building, especially in its public spaces, and a relatively good bargain if (1) you're very wealthy and can afford one of the best suites, or (2) if you manage to get a good deal on a combined flight/hotel though some agency like Expedia. The real problem with the hotel now is that the clients aren't up to scratch. Hotel patrons can't really do 'grand' any more, and the sloppiness of many of the guests makes one feel that however lovely the hotel, the people in the building have wandered in from a particularly down-market town. American casualness, which is wonderful at times, here seems to bring the whole idea of a place like The Drake crashing down and whatever the original attraction was, it isn't there any longer. Rooms were small but comfortable, but the service in those rooms was always slightly off: coffee for the coffee machine was note replaced on a daily basis, the only English Breakfast tea bag was never replaced, a dirty glass placed in the middle of a table was not removed for two days, and although there were a number of occasional tables in the room, what was really needed was a chest with four or five drawers, and that wasn't available. Staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good and the views were fab, but somehow they just don't manage to pull it off.

Old hotel, OK room, great location

Posted Aug 12, 2015
Pros: Staff, location
Cons: maintenance in the room.
We got a discounted room so we decided to stay here. The hotel is nice and charming, the food is OK, the bar was OK. We did not have tea this time. The employees are nice. The room itself was clean but had some issues with the bathroom door not closing and other small things like that. For a single person it should be good. For a couple was a bit too small.
