Outstanding Staff, excellent location.

The staff at the James were outstanding. We were surprised by how friendly and helpful everyone was. I would definitely stay at this hotel when I return to Chicago.

Modern Chic Hotel close to everything

As of April 2017 the lobby is under renovation but they have done a great job with temp barriers. NO BIG DEAL and I think some favorable pricing as a result. I love this hotel. The rooms have loft inspired design which is pretty cool. If you have to do hard core, at a desk, work it's less ideal. But you can get comfy on the couch with your laptop and jam away. Depends on your work style.

Pros: Everything - staff, location, room layout
Fabulous location just steps to the "Mag Mile" and Trader Joes and Walgreens across the street. The room was immaculate and very spacious...I was shocked at how affordable this place was considering the room and location combined! And any encounter with any of the hotel staff was a pleasure! The young men who worked out front of the hotel were always asking if we needed a cab, directions, recommendations....they went above and beyond. Very enjoyable weekend at The James Chicago!

very nice, close to everything

Pros: nice clean fresh when you walk in your room, breakfast at the hotel were great, good service thank you
Location: 1 block from Starbuck, which I need in the morning
first time stay at The James....love everything except the drainer in shower very slow, need to update that other wise would be a good 5 star hotel

Wish I could have stayed longer

Pros: Staff, boutique feel, cleanliness, comfort, food.
I was in for a quick work trip and checked in late in the 9pm hour. The staff greeted me very warmly and started my stay off very well. The room was spacious, clean, fresh, and very modern. It was just what I wanted and not too much! Upon departure, the door men helped me cross the street to my driver who was located on the other side. Tip top service! I forgot something in my room when I was quickly departing, and they are actually sending it directly to me. This is the first time that I've forgotten something and I will ACTUALLY get it back! I wish I could have stayed longer as I was not able to use the other amenities of the hotel and it was a very pleasant stay. If I head back to Chicago soon, I will definitely try to stay at The James again!

Great hotel in the middle of everything

This was my first time going to Chicago so I didn't know what to expect. The James was the perfect fit!! It was clean, hotel staff were always very nice and willing to do anything and give any advice to make my stay remarkable. The hotel was walking distance to almost everything! Can't wait to book my next trip.

Great hotel close to everything

My family and I traveled to Chicago for 4 day trip and are very happy with The James. The service and location of this hotel make it worth every penny. They are doing some remodeling during April 2017 but it caused no inconvenience at all. We will be staying again if we return to Chicago. One thing I have noticed in hotels that none have a microwave in rooms or near by to reheat your food, that would be a plus if the James would add that.

Different feel, but sufficient...

Pros: Clean, great location and the staff is SUPER friendly.
Cons: Tiny elevators, no ice machines.
The hotel staff was super friendly and very accommodating to our needs. We showed up around 10:00 after taking a red eye from the West Coast and were hoping to get a room for a quick nap, as many people said they were able to check in early. Unfortunately, the hotel was sold out but they did call us at Noon, as they said they would, when a room opened up so that we could come back from lunch and grab a little shut eye. The lobby was under construction when we were there, so that was kind of awkward checking in at what appeared to be a little conference room. They don't have any ice machines, which is weird, but they will bring you a super huge thing of ice at your request. It's just a little frustrating that you can't get it right away when you want from your floor and then you feel obligated to tip. The hotel is clean and close to quite a bit, although it is a few blocks from the Red Line. Location is super! Overall, it's a nice hotel just lacking a bit. Oh, there are only two elevators and they are TINY! Never seemed to have an issue catching an elevator, but with your luggage there could be an issue.

You Can Do Better

Noisy, if you dedire sleep, I suggest you stay elsewhere. Cleanliness doesn't appear to be a priority either. Ugh!
