Lobby by W; Bathroom by Microtel

Posted Apr 2, 2017
Pros: Its location. The conference hotel ran out of rooms, and this was within easy walking distance.
Cons: Better trained staff; brighter lighting in the elevators and halls. I realize this is a W thing, but it makes it hard to navigate.
Location: The Art Institute, good places for salads and sandwiches, subway stop is nearby.
It may be that the W Chicago City Center is new at this, but the check-in process was unprofessional. There was loud live music in the bar, so it was difficult to hear the registration clerk; there was a very long line and only one person working at what would seem to be a popular check-in hour; the one clerk on duty was arguing over deposits with the customer ahead of me, which seemed like something better handled using indoor voices. The bathroom is uncomfortably small, although there were all the usual hotel features--toiletries, thick towels, a bagged hair dryer. The platform bed leads to very uncomfortable ways of tucking in the sheets and blankets, though, and the bed looked like a mare's nest by morning. The room is small, but I wasn't using it for anything but sleeping.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out our survey regarding your most recent stay with us. At W, we do strive to uphold the highest level of service and to hear that you were happy with your entire stay is something I would like to celebrate! Having been built in the 1920s, our unique structure does cause some variance between rooms especially with our location in the financial district. We are truly sorry for any discomfort this room may have caused you, as we definitely do not want any of our guests to feel that way when staying here. I have placed a comment in your profile to ensure that we do our absolute best to keep you out of those room types upon any future reservations here. Nice hotel, great location

Posted Mar 6, 2017
Pros: Great location in the Loop, close to Millennium Park, and walkable to Museum Campus. Nice, clean rooms and bathrooms.
Cons: Wifi is expensive!
Location: We walked 3+ hours every day to parks and museums. Close to many of Chicago's most beautiful buildings, and the lake.
My friend and I stayed at the W in March, 2017, for a weekend. We had originally booked a room with one king bed to share, and they very nicely upgraded us to a much larger room with two beds for $20/night. The staff was also very accommodating when we asked to keep our bags at the hotel for several hours after we checked out, so that we could finish exploring Chicago.

All I want is coffee and a carpet

Posted Feb 24, 2017 on Hotels
Why do "nice" hotels not offer coffee in the room? I want to drink coffee, shower, then go down to the lobby. Coffee first! I would rather you raise by bill by $2 and give me fifty cents worth of coffee than make me go downstairs. The carpet was very worn and separating. The touchpad tv in the lobby offered very few recommendations as far as what to do and where to go. Other than the above, the hotel was very nice.

Ed, I was disappointed to hear that your stay was anything less than perfect and I do apologize you felt any discomfort in any aspect of our hotel, especially regarding the lack of a coffee maker in the room. They are available per request, and I am taking the necessary steps to make this incident into a training opportunity for the Welcome Desk Department, to ensure that this experience does not repeat to you or any other guests in the future. Again, thank you for taking the time to write your concerns with us, and we truly appreciate your feedback. Your business is very important to us. I hope you will consider staying with us in the future; please reach out to me directly next time so I may better ensure your comfort. Best Regards, Jessica Hwang Welcome Office Manager

Aside from the hotel not receiving my confirmation from Hotels.com, it was great. The room was quite, large and very clean.

Perfect for a city weekend

Posted Feb 3, 2017
It is quiet in the area on weekends, and I rather like that. It in nice to walk into the Starbucks at the corner that is not crowded :) . I missed having a coffee machine, but the staff was nice to bring me one. The shower curtain is either too short or placed too high up, making it kind of tricky to keep the area around the shower dry, but it worked out well. Great location, nice staff, clean and cool.

Stay was great. However, I wasnt too happy with the parking charge. Also, the lobby bar was great too but the cold air and front door noise was annoying and difficult to deal with. Try installing a glass door wall.......... Also, in the morning, I woke up to a dead phone system. I wasnt able to make any calls i.e. order breakfast, call for my vehicle etc......
