When I checked in I was told I'd have to pay a $60 fee which would be refunded 2-3 days after check-out. They have a float on my money from the time I checked in until 3 days after I leave. For what valid reason? None. They already have my credit card in case I cause damage. They know I"m already a committed guest due to my reservation, so it's not like I can change my mind when I find out about the fee.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback regarding your stay with us.
We regret that you were surprised by the authorization of your card for incidentals and deposit. This is a common practice that facilitates certain conveniences that we provide to the guests; the authorization of the card indicates that we are able to charge the card for services such as: dining/purchases charged to the room, parking charged to the room, or in occasional circumstances already mentioned by you, damage to the room.
The authorization confirms that the card is still indeed valid at the time of check in.
We regret any inconveniences that this has caused you. We aim to make for enjoyable stays and memorable getaways, and we hope you give us a chance to make your next vacation a great one.
