Hidden behind an old, large wooden door, Hotel Casa Aluxes is a small, charming, family-run hotel with a beautiful garden and a pool for cooling off after a day of exploring. The hotel is located in a quiet, safe neighborhood and is easy walking distance to museums, churches, squares, shopping, tourism office, delicious Yucatecan food, and salsa dancing to live music at Cafeina. One afternoon we returned, hot and tired, and soon after we had reached our room, the owner thoughtfully brought us a delicious local coffee-cocoa-tequila drink to enjoy. Each morning we strolled through the garden to enjoy an included, full breakfast featuring fresh juices (our favorites were the sandía and the chaya) AND plenty of gluten-free options without having to worry about cross-contamination. There is a full restaurant, El Rincón de los Aluxes for lunch and dinner. Throughout the property there are interesting pieces of local artwork and bright colors. Our beds were comfortable, we appreciated having air conditioning, and the shower was great. It felt like home-away-from home. We will definitely return. Oh, and there was plenty of secure parking.
