Overnight stop after visiting Harpers Ferry
Posted Oct 3, 2016
Spent our last day of vacation in Harpers Ferry and needed a place to stay for the night before continuing on home. Everything in Harpers Ferry was either expensive or not to our liking so we chose the Sleep Inn & Suites in Clear Spring, MD. The hotel is clean but dated and definitely understaffed. There was no one at the desk when we arrived but an employee appeared shortly after we rang the service bell. Check in was easy and fast. Our room was comfortable though not as large as it appeared in the photo on the website. There was a fridge, which we needed, and the bathroom was large and clean. The carpet was stained and old looking and so was the blanket on our bed. But as I said before, it was clean. We planned to go to the hot tub to relax and were very disappointed to find it out of order. There was a large bag of trash at the end of the hall near our room when we checked in that was still there the next morning. The same desk clerk that was working the previous evening was at the desk again in the morning. The patio outside the breakfast room need cleaning--towels on the tables and ash trays were full. Guessing it's a break area for staff. That's how it looked anyway. Breakfast was decent, with nice danish and apple fritters as well as the usual fare. Would stay again if in the area but I do think the price needs to come down a bit due to the hotel being dated. They obviously need to hire some more staff.
