Historic but sterile

Posted Nov 14, 2016 on Hotels
A beautiful historic building and staff were helpful and attentive. A good choice for a single night but we found the hotel atmosphere somewhat sterile and the city of Coimbra with beautiful old buildings is in need of some innovation and love.

Beautiful grounds, hotel is in a quiet area,

Posted Nov 8, 2016
Location: ABout. A 2 mile, pleasant walk to the town centre. THe town of Coimbra is an old hilly town, it has one of the oldest universities in Portugal.
THe room decor is tired, very poor lighting,. THe restaurant serves typically bland hotel style food. There is a large social area that works well for the bus tour quests as they can socialize after a busy day.

Coimbra stay

Posted Oct 24, 2016
Beautiful hotel and garden, very comfortable bed, warm decor. Only downmark is failure to make reservation for dinner at a restaurant with same owner as hotel. Called concierge who confidently said we had a reservation, no problem. When we got to the restaurant, it was all booked for a private function. They offered to sit us apart from the rest, either alone outside in the cold and rain (with an umbrella) or literally in the door. The manager said the hotel never called about the reservation. The restaurant manager was kind enough to get us a reservation at a wonderful nearby restaurant, but otherwise we would have been left high and dry by the hotel concierge...

Great location, a short walk to the city center

Posted Oct 20, 2016
Pros: Main building had atmosphere that one would expect in a historic site. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained.
Cons: Cheap decor in the newer addition.
Location: Easy walking to the city center. A short taxi ride to the University.
Room in the newer addition was a bit lacking in character. Cheap room decor in a top of the line hotel.

Very good hotel near Coimbra

Posted Oct 19, 2016
Pros: The rooms, the service and the facilities are very good.
Cons: The fitness center needs to be refurbished. It hast just one treadmill, so if more than one guest wants to do a run, you will have to wait.
Location: You can either stay in the facilities and enjoy them, or get a cab and go into Coimbra, which is a very nice town.
This is a very good hotel in the outskirts of Coimbra. You need a Taxi or a long walk to get to the city, but the hotel is very nice and you can be tempted to stay in the facilities instead to go to the city. Luxurious and very well set, has a very good SPA, an excellent swimming pool and a fitness center. Gardens surrounding the buildings, one of them being the "Core" and an adjacent one brand new, with rooms very well appointed. The staff is very helpful, excellent breakfast. So you can go to the city and walk and get back on time to get to the pool or the SPA and rest. I fully recommend this hotel.

dissaponting if you dont choose the right room

Posted Oct 18, 2016 on Hotels
we were very dissapointed because we chose this quinta for its history and thought to enjoy the special atmosphere, but we received a room in a new wing which is attached to the old quinta and nothing there was special. it was just a very plain room.
