We had looked forward to our stay in Coonabarabran, to experience the dark skies and we ended up booking two nights in a large cabin at the Wagon Wheel, so we could spread out. Now we didn’t know there was a mouse plague recently in NSW so we are not blaming the owners for a mouse in the cabin, at all. However, the cabin was quite shabby, with very thin windows and really needs a good overhaul and some extra love and care. The real issue we had (and we stayed in Cabin 7) was the noise of the trucks that went through most of the night and the fibro building afforded very little sound deafening from the noise. It was even loud in the daytime! After the first night we decided to leave and move accommodations, didn’t demand a refund, cut our losses ($145 a night) and moved to the Clock Tower motel and the noise there wasn’t a problem. We have often been amused, reading reviews on Hotel.com how some places get great reviews and then, seemingly out of the blue, someone criticises the same place! However, this is the first time we have criticised a place online and moved out, in all our almost 50years plus of travelling in Aus and overseas.
