Nice hotel close to the beach

Posted Dec 16, 2016
Pros: I just told you
Cons: There are some very slight signs of wear here and there but as I told the night clerk "I have paid more to stay in much worse places when traveling.
Location: Centrally located on the road to Port Aransas. Plenty of reasonable places to eat and plenty of places to fish. Not much fishing tackle.
What a pleasant surprise. All the staff was extremely cordial and helpful. I had a rented kayak in my pick up and was a little concerned about security but no problems. One truck had several fishing rods sticking out and they were OK. The room could not have suited me better. Not too big and not too small. Had a fridge & microwave & coffee pot (w/coffee) but I got my coffee at the hot breakfast. Nothing to brag about but handy. The online price can't be beat. I will stay there on the next trip even if I end up fishing at Rockport. I can't say enough good things about it.

My first one star review. Horrendous smells.

Posted Nov 21, 2016
I don't understand how this place got so many good reviews. As soon as I walked in the lobby had a mildew smell that immediately bothered my allergies. The girl at the front desk was nice. It all went down hill from there. The room was tiny and dark. I travel for business a few times a month and this is the smallest room I have seen in a long time. The room had a majorly overpowering smell of highly perfumed cleaning supplies. Even the front desk girl said it was bad and that she couldn't stay in the room for too long. We tried a few other rooms but they were all the same. The smell gave me a bad headache. I'm not some sissy kind of guy. It was really bad. I couldn't get my money back and swap hotels because I booked through Expedia. The rooms weren't very clean either. Luckily, the room was under $70 but I would rather paid a lot more for a cleaner room and hotel that didn't stink. The wifi is dismal and is too slow for any use besides basic email. Waking up with a headache from the super near toxic fumes sucks. I would never stay here again.

Fast check in, the hotel was full. Great breakfast - eggs, sausage, oatmeal, excellent waffles, biscuits and gravy, juice. This alone was worth the stay for what you would have paid to eat in a restaurant.

Hotel Needs QC Check for Room Cleanliness

Posted Oct 18, 2016
Cons: SOmeoine should doble check each room for cleanliness.
First review ever! We planned the weekend around a high school football game in Ingleside and wanted to explore the area. We checked into the hotel room around 3PM Friday 10/14/2016 , dropped off our bags, and headed to Port Aransas. Had a nice lunch on the island, went to the beach, visited some shops and headed to the game at 7:30PM. Get back to the hotel around 11PM and discover the remote control is missing the back and no batterries. Go to the front desk and the remote is replaced. Watch some TV and start to get ready to go to sleep for the evening. Pull the covers back and smell a strong urine odor. We get out of bed and pull the sheets back and discover the top sheet had been changed but the mattress pad underneath was not changed. Head to the front desk and the front desk states oh we had a disabled person in that room #138 and they had an peed the bed. So she calls her supervisor and they offer an upgrade which is a room with two queen beds. So I ask how is that an upgrade? So she offers us a larger room, she was polite, and met us in the new room so she could check it out. We had thought about not staying and just driving home but we were both tired and not ready to make the three hour drive home at midnight. I realize things happen but common sense tells most that if the sheet had urine so does the mattress pad.

Thanks so much for letting us know. Our staff at the front did upgrade you to a Suite and after knowing this information you where compensated with a free night stay. This was an isolated incident and we did speak with the Head of Housekeeping to go over with her staff the proper way to clean the bed under these circumstances to ensure this will not happen again. It was overall good. I would go back especially for the price. The only down side was there was a musky smell to the room and in two different room and all the halls the carpet always feels damp

Thanks so much for your comments. Due to our guest concerns and the high humidity here we are trying out a new product that will hopefully take away the musky smell & the dampness in the rooms. We hope that you will come and visit again on your next visit to our area. Sherry Shaver, Guest Service Manager
