An Authentic Foray into the !4th Century

Posted Oct 22, 2016
Pros: The dog Guri (a Jack Russell terrier) was very playful and humorously enticied one wanted to play fetch
Cons: The owner is planning further improvements, but the property is more than adequate for a quite comfortable stay.
Location: Lots of quaint villages and town for day trips inb the region.
Casa de Sezim is a bit rustic but it is really exiting and wonderful to stay in a courtyard style 14th century winemaker's villa. Excellent breakfast. Award winning wines at the honor bar. Easy 15 minute access by taxi to the historic Medieval section of Guimareas with its castles and several great restaurants.

Gorgeous throwback in time

Beautiful ancient buildings and exceptional grounds. Off the beaten track but a little hard to find with Google maps. Their own Vinho Verde wine was delicious. Everyone was friendly and helpful. It is a gem.

It takes centuries to produce real quality

Posted Sep 11, 2016
Pros: It's style, its personal warmth. its beauty.
Cons: Boosted wifi reception. Only barely adequate.
Location: Walks in the vineyards, to the top of the hill. Lovely views. Good restaurants in Guimaraes.
For no more than the price of a good hotel you are welcomed into a real home, a working winery, surrounded by the accumulated precious personal objects and taste that reflect the place and its culture. Nothing is artificial, or put on for show. Our room was spacious and comfortable and cool on a scorching day, without airconditioning. The pool and the grounds are relaxing and beautiful. You'll need a GPS to find it, but its only a short ride from major roads and Guimaraes. The wine, the bradkfast, and the dinner we were served were all delicious. If you are looking for somewhere made-over and modern, this is not for you. That kind of luxury can be easily bought. This kind can't.

What a find!

Posted May 25, 2015 on Hotels
We have stayed in more luxurious places than this hotel, but never ever in one with this price/quality ratio. This was a fantastic find. Just the wall paintings inside the public rooms are worth a visit. What a history! As a hotel, everything you really need is there: spacious bedroom and bathroom, swimming pool, nice breakfast on the porch, fireplace bar and lounge with honor system, winery on the premises, ... When in the area, we will return here.

Posted May 19, 2013
