Perfect location.

Posted Sep 23, 2017
Had planned on staying downtown but the Westport neighborhood with its vibrant restaurants and shopping scene and close proximity to everything KC was the perfect choice. The 816 had a casual and stylish vibe. Helpful, friendly staff plus very good breakfast included. And, no small thing...free and convenient parking. A big win!

Pros: The wall murals displaying local history are really cool. It was clean and quiet.
Cons: Beds
Location: Hamburgers next door at the Westport Flea Market are yummy!
It was a nice hotel and reasonably priced. The only complaint is the bed. They were aweful! Foam on springs that sunk in when you laid on it, no support. If they would upgrade the beds, it would have been great.

Thank you for taking the time to share your stay with us. I am glad that overall you enjoyed your time with us. Unfortunately, mattresses always create "Goldie Lock syndrome"! Some people love them while others hate them. We hope that you will come back and see us and enjoy our returning guest rate at any of our area code family hotels!

Poor customer service experience

Posted Aug 25, 2017
I found this hotel on Expedia. My overall customer service experience was very poor. They made mistakes in overcharging my card, it took forever to get a manager on the phone, they kept leaving messages for other people to take care of the issue, and my issue wasn't resolved until over a week later. I will say the breakfast and bar staff were very friendly. They had just redone our room but it is not finished well. No vent in the bathroom and there is already mold on the ceiling. I will not be staying here again

I am so sorry that there was a billing issue for your stay. I hope that we have cleared that up for you. Would you mind contacting me and letting me know what room you had been in? I would like to address the other issues with housekeeping and maintenance, as well as verify all of the billing issues were handled correctly. We are still completing our renovation. I wish that you would come back when we are done and let us show you how we are improving every day! I will give my breakfast and bar staff a high five on your behalf! Thank you for taking the time to share your stay with us.

nice

Posted Aug 22, 2017
everything was nice except breakfast. they are remodelling so it could be better in the future. but something was wrong with breakfast. first, there was not much to eat and one cook was making omelettes for 20 guests. they should offer buffet or scrap breakfast. it was just a waste of time for everybody. otherwise, a nice place to stay.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy our breakfast. My girls take great pride in their omelets and they do take time to cook to safe eating temperatures. She works very hard and cooks up to 4 omelets at the same time. We do also offer many other items such as, make your own waffles, hot and cold cereal, fruit, yogurt, bagels, muffins, etc. We hope that your experience at breakfast will not keep you from coming back and enjoying our returning guest rate.

New and friendly

Posted Aug 20, 2017
The staff was so nice and friendly. Front desk, Kenny, was genuine and professional. Great space all newly redone and and really close to Westport nightlife and The Plaza. Parking isn't most plentiful but not bad and free. Wild stay again.

A little disappointed

Posted Aug 18, 2017
Cons: Fix every room
When I booked my hotel I chose to not have a themed room. When I got there and I got into my room it was a themed room. I felt like the furniture and everything in the room was 30+ years old. I felt gross sleeping there. I do feel like it will be better once they are finished renovating. I did not shower there and just wore a baseball cap the next day.

I do apologize that you were not satisfied with your stay. Would you mind sharing with me what room you were in? Most of our rooms have been remodeled, however, we are still working on a few. But we do still hold our housekeepers to the same expectations of cleanliness on all of our rooms. I hope that you will come back and see how we are improving daily.

Nice spot in Kansas City

Posted Aug 17, 2017
Pros: Convenient location
Cons: Still updating some areas and no pool
Location: Walking distance to shopping and city parks
The location was really nice and our room was updated and very comfortable. The room price was very reasonable and free drink at the bar!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We are glad that you enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately, our property is not equipped with a good spot for a pool. The city does offer a variety of public pools and splash parks for your enjoyment. My staff would be happy to help you find them when you return to the area!

Great location. Cute themed rooms. Funky smell.

Posted Jul 27, 2017
Loved the vibe of the place with its great location and fun themed rooms. But the hotel smells funky. Must be the carpets. And there is a left behind odor of chemicals in the room that reminded me of a bad VRBO experience where we stayed in a converted garage and were overpowered by chemical smells to hide the smell of the place. Also they need new beds. Ours was lumpy and both my husband and I left with awful pain in our necks. For $200/ night we expected comfort and a nice smelling hotel.

Sorry about any odor you experienced, and the pain in your neck. Yeesh, that's the last thing we want to hear. We will investigate and see if we can't fix this problem.

Walking distance to Westport restaurants and bars.

Posted Jul 21, 2017
Pros: Location location location!
Cons: A tiny bottle of lotion with all the other great toiletries :) I had to run next door to World Market for lotion, but no biggie!
Location: Westport is so much fun, we really enjoy HopCat, McCoy's, Jerasulem Cafe, and Broadway Cafe, but all the bars and restaurants are great.
We booked to celebrate my husband's birthday. Upon learning this, the front desk upgraded our reservation and gave us a couple extra cocktail hour tickets. The room was cute and fun, bed was comfortable, and shower was great. We received great service from check in to check out, and we are looking forward to our next staycation.

Loved the Neighborhood

Posted Jul 18, 2017
Had a very good stay at The 816. Check was at 4:00 but had to check in prior to that due to the event we were going to, hotel staff worked extra hard to get our room ready and faster than was expected. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, Bar was nice and breakfast was awesome. Only dislike is I did not get a receipt at check out.

Glad you liked your stay! When you book online through a third party, you have to get your receipt from them, sorry about that. Hope to see you again! Safe Travels
