Rooms were poor condition, and low quality of everything in rooms. It all needs updating. And it needs refrigerator/microwave. Front desk staff need more training. Restaurant staff were excellent, Esteban and Leonardo were great. Housekeeping for room 1112, Antonio was amazing.

If you only care about the beach you will be happy. It's an amazing view and the ocean is literally right outside... If you don't mind not having ANY room amenities like a phone, WIFI, coffee maker, more than two towels, or a fridge then you will think this place is great. The room and bathroom are so outdated that you will struggle to feel comfortable, not even the chairs on the balcony are good they have stretched out and your butt will literally touch the ground. The bathroom is horrible I would not go in the shower without footwear Food!!! No Bueno! It is really difficult. There is 1 buffet serving the same food every day lending more towards Mexican cuisine but the food is not fresh unless you get there right when they set it out. It can sit there all day... They have a snack area with burgers and hotdogs but again if you are not there when they put it out first I have no doubt you could get sick. I have so much to say but this trip has totally exhausted me just trying to find things to eat. I have lived on fruit and I bought peanut butter at a local store. Oh... room service... we asked how to order because I was throwing up for 24 hours, finally found out you have to call the hotel # to be transferred to room service and they will either not answer or hang up. They only have at the most two people at the front desk so you could be in line to check in for more than a hour... No matter how much I've tried to push my judgements aside. I can't recommend this place.

Needs serious update!! We’d turn the sink faucet on and the whole spout would turn and water would go all over the counter. Holes where the shower knobs came out from the wall. Service was excellent. Food was nothing to call home about. Steak in the restaurant was good but have to go down early.. no phone in the room to call front desk… to make a reservation. Luckily someone in our group is an early bird and made reservations for the one night we ate in the restaurant.Do not plan to return.

The room that I played in advance was for the garden view, but we got given a 6-floor room with no view. The desk cluck said that the only room available was on the 6th floor. To get to the room you take the elevator to the 5th floor and then walk one flit of stair to the 6th floor, because the elevator only goose to the 5th floor. When I mentioned it to the head concierge and shoed hem the Expedia reservation, he moved us to the 4th floor, because all of the garden rooms were talked. The concierge said they had Dubble booked hopping that one of the gests would not show up. and the room would not be available for 2 days. The 4th floor room had no hot water and the AC was leaking water. the water view was the top of the tike huts. never did get our garden view room. and did not get refunded for the differed in room charges.

This resort was what we expected for the most part, and exceeded expectations on many levels. Realistically, it's a 3-3.5 star resort with many 4 star features. The staff are just delightful and Cozumel is a wonderful place to visit. Some of the reviews I've read are from folks who expect 5 star at a 3 star price: and prefer to complain rather than pay for what they want... If you treat the staff here well, they will return the favor in spades. If you don't, you'll get what you deserve... Yes, the property needs some updates and the pandemic made financing all that more difficult. They are slowly making improvements. The beach area is very nice and the pools are too. They could benefit from one or two more restaurant options, but the dinner reservation venue is excellent and well worth standing in line to reserve. All in all, we had a very enjoyable week at El Cozomeleno and would recommend it to anyone looking for a bargain vacation in Cozumel.

Our room was awful. I had to shower with my shoes on because of how gross the showers were. If those towels were in my house they would have been called "dog towels". Check in was not on time and that is very inconvenient when you have been traveling all day with a 2 year old. Birds were literally eating from the outdoor grill/buffet. They spent so much time cleaning and gardening all around the pool but the actual pool needed much more attention. Below the waterfall was just full of trash. The bartenders needed a better cup/glass situation they would pour ice back into the ice container from a cup that had been drunk out of. My cup of beer always smelled fruity like I was using an unclean glass. The swimming beach out in front of the hotel and pier were very nice. I am sure I sound like I just have standards that are to high but i promise I have stayed in nicer hostels. I would absolutely never book here ever again.

Nice view of the beach. Reasonable price, clean, and safe. I love that Pepe SCUBA Shop in on site! Challenges... Check in was the worst I have experienced having traveled all over the world. I heard that the check-in has been horrible for a decade. They need to fix that. We enjoyed shore diving and a trip out with Pepe's SCUBA.

It's been several years since we stayed at ElCoz but we got a great deal & decided to try it again. The staff is great & the rooms & property are clean. Since we were there about 8 years ago, there has been a decline in food/drink choices & entertainment. We did not go hungry but the buffet is about half the size of what it used to be & the fresh fruit selection was sad (every day there were 3 to 4 selections & some was canned fruit). Ordering off the menu was definitely the way to go & we did enjoy the pizza, tacos & nacho selections there. Very little pool entertainment & nothing at night which sent us into town most evenings for something to do. This seems to be more of a family resort now with many kids around which had not been the case the several times we had stayed in the past. They still do not have the bird situation under control, they dive bomb you while eating (even insude the buffet), will land right on the table & steal food right out of the buffet warmers if they are left open- this does not seem sanitary & makes for an interesting dining experience. We have stayed at other resorts on the island & never had a bird issue like this. There is only 1 restaurant besides the buffet & it requires reservations so we did not get in to try that in our short 3 night stay. We have been traveling to Mexico for about 20 years & will not return to the ElCoz even if we get a deal, there are better options out there which saddens me as we love the small setup of this place.

My kids and I stayed at this resort for 8 days. I thoroughly read the reviews before booking it. Here is my take on this hotel. Pros: The staff was outstanding. They were responsive and helpful every time that I had an issue or a request. I will give special props to Luisa who mans the egg station in the morning and is an excellent cook. Leo and Caesar work at the activities desk and they are both so fun and amazing. Santiago was by far the best waiter that I interacted with. The snorkeling was perfect. The daily activities provided the kids and I with things to do daily if we wanted to. The pools were great and music was always playing. Cons: The food was absolutely terrible. The only good part was the egg station for breakfast. Everything else was simply atrocious. The liquor is bottom shelf and disgusting. Most of the liquor tasted like drinking gasoline. This is a very old hotel. There was a renovation in 2006, but I believe it was only done on 1 of the 2 towers. We did not stay on the renovated side. Our room was 4x the size of a normal room, but that was the only positive thing about it. The beds were hard as rocks. The pull-out couch was broken. When you sat down on the couch you nearly sank to the floor. The A/C cannot go below 70 degrees. The A/C unit never stopped running and was extremely loud. The shower looked like it was built in the 70s and there was very little water pressure.

Bottom of the barrel for all inclusive hotels, right part of the hotel the rooms are nasty, old, paint falling off from everywhere, no outlets and very concerned about breathing the air out of the barely working AC vents, (very strong moldy smell). After fighting with three different people, they moved me to the left side of the hotel the next day after checking out at 11 and checking back in at 3 where the rooms look like in the pictures on the website. Only one restaurant and you better be there at 7:30 AM if you wanna have a table. Food is bad in the restaurant, not much to eat and always the same things in the buffet area. If you always worry about eating too much in an all inclusive resorts, you won’t have that problem here. Me and my family went out for dinner five out of the seven nights that we stay there. Half of the waiters are good and the other half will try to avoid you. Snorkeling it’s OK but it’s better on the other hotels on the same area. There’s only about 14 tiki’s in the whole hotel and people saves them overnight and for the whole week. Very disappointed and it feels like I ruined my vacation, but that’s what I get for being cheap this time.

We booked this on Expedia based on the photos. The photos are not accurate, especially of the rooms on the older side (5 story building). The bathroom was the worst I've ever seen in 20 years of travel. The toilet seat was broken and place on the toilet bowl without being attached and my daughter almost fell to the floor. When we reported the issue, the hotel never sent anyone to repair it. As well, the bed must have been 5 years old as it was hard as a rock and had about 2-3 inches of compression from others laying in the bed over the years, so much that it was hard to roll over. We went to the front desk to report the broken toilet lid and they gave us the run around for over 30 minutes, so we just left without staying. I reported it to Expedia and the last notice they sent to us is that they could not get a hold of anybody at the hotel. This hotel needs to be removed immediately from the Expedia website as it is a classic bait and switch fraud based on photos that did not look like our room at all. As well, the facility was really run down and needed alot of updating. Food was a 3 out of 10. Service staff was excellent and friendly minus the front desk guy who made us write a letter to his boss who was not there describing the issue, which was weird. It felt like they were accusing us of damaging the toilet lid. Stay away at all cost unless you can handle a 1 or 2 star rundown hotel.

I enjoyed my stay at El Cosumeno because the weather was beautiful. Nobody really speaks English so there is a barrier at times communicating if you don’t know some Spanish. Google translate became my best friend. In the rooms the furniture was old and worn, the bed and sheets were hard. The shower trinkled down water but it was always hot. It wasn’t dirty but it wasn’t super clean either. The staff was great and very nice. It’s a nice place to stay for what we paid or if you don’t spend much time in your room. The views were breathtaking and our room was by the pool and the food!!! However, the food was substandard and the drinks weren’t that good! We stopped eating the food after the 2nd day and started going to restaurants. It tasted like prison food and I’ve never been to prison. But that’s the best way I can describe it. Oh and last but not least everything shuts down at 10:30pm. Lights and all! So if you’re going to party, be ready to go into town. No partying on this resort. It is a family resort. Overall, I had a great trip because of who I was with. The ocean was absolutely beautiful and we could see it from our room. The pools are very nice and we have fun on the excursions. I’m sure that I won’t ever stay there again unless I just need a quick getaway. Also, if you fly in through Cancun, you will have to take a ferry. Overall, I would give them a 2.

Great snorkeling right by the resort, walk down the beach to the left, lots of rocks, awesome fish, float back with the water current. Food and drinks are OK, remember this is a low cost resort. Quiet beach vibe. The pier wall helps keep the area in front with clear water and less waves. If it's not too windy walk down the beach and snorkel back.

I was there with my family for a week. The hotel itself was clean but very, very outdated. Our bed was extremely hard, to the point that every morning we would wake up with our backs being sore. Rooms are very spacious but they need to invest in updating the furniture, specially the beds. Wifi would not work in the rooms,it would only work if u we were on the balcony. As far as food goes, there were very limited options. Thankfully what little options they had were good. One thing that I disliked a lot is the lack of entertaiment. We were very disappointed that they had no night entertainment or more activities during the day. One activity my boys liked was the soccer activity. We had fun, but we wouldn't go back.

This is the first time ever that I have been counting down the days to leave. We tried to leave the property day 1, but the resort acted shady about approving our refund for the rest of the stay. It was gross… we delay with bugs in the room, rude check in staff, and everything was dirty and run down. I would never go back here. I regret ever going. It was a total rip off and I hate that I had to even spend money there with them. We travel often and this has really made me question looking at the Expedia ratings. I have never been so disappointed and flat out disgusted. It was the most unrelaxing stay I have ever had.

The snorkeling and swimming area is very nice in front of the hotel, but bring water shoes. If you head south about 200 yds, there are steps to get into the ocean (it's a little precarious, but this 60 year old managed it) with water shoes, and kind of 'drift' back to the hotel - the number of fish you'll see is 10 times what you see in front of the hotel. Food and drinks...meh. I liked the quesadillas, cake, steamed veggies, salads, husband and son liked the hotdogs, hamburgers and meat. Bathrooms are just run down, room is big - 517 sq feet - loved that. Towels and sheets are kind of old and stained. Putt putt was fun and hilarious. Played every day - do it, and you'll understand why! Billiards was fun too. We didn't do the pools but once, as the ocean was too much fun. Sunsets were great. There's a tennis court in the shade in the afternoon. Room from our 2nd floor balcony - awesome. We went to scuba dive with Pepe scuba. Luis was so nice and my son got certified with him. You can borrow snorkel and mask from them for 1 hour WITH your ID. Or you can pay around $15 for a 24 hour rental. 10 dollars to downtown via taxi. Go and walk around, see the cruise ships, eat out. So... the price of the hotel is on the lower end. And if you're used to 4 or 5 star hotels, this is not it. Lower your expectations and you'll have a great time. The buffet wait staff work so hard and are very nice. Leave some tips for them, and the omelette and quesadilla crew (under their little rock).

The old staff that have been there for years are amazing We've stayed here many times but not sure if we'll return. It's sooo outdated, beds are terrible, had no hot water several times, the food is the exact same every day. NOTHING has changed or been improved in the last 10 years. Probably time to find a different place.

The property is almost the last hotel on the north side so it's somewhat quiet. We had a great time and didn't have any problems. The one thing i noticed was once the pool bar closed the other bartenders really had to do alot more work because they got super busy. Another bar would really help.

Check in and out time was around 2 hours total, the staff were very slow. Staff were all very friendly. Room did not have towels, we had to request this. Drinks were good but a bit watered down. Beach front is nice. Taxi services readily available at anytime. Food was very mediocre and restaurants have the same menu/options.

Arrived to the Island for a 5 day trip with my large family, booked at another resort that weve been to 4 times before. Quickly realized it wasnt the same resort as it had a new owner. For many reasons we checked out after two nights and moved my family to the Cozumeleno. As always the resort was accommodating and the service was amazing. The Cozumeleno has been my favorite in my 30 years of traveling to the island.

Our room was clean, but the bed was hard and the pillows were very small. Also, there was visible mold on the bed skirt and corrosion and shower facuet. The room need to be updated and detailed cleaned.The food options really didnt change day to day and the buffet food was cold. The staff was very nice and work daily to keep the resort clean.

Been there around 25 times (23 years) It hasn't changed much and we like that. Relaxed atmosphere, attentive and friendly staff. Nice beach. Great resort for the price.

The Cozumeleño resort is a nice place to get away and relax. However, checking in was not fun at all. Im not sure if it was because it was rush hour but it took forever. Our room was supposed to be ready by 3pm we arrived around 2:45pm completed check in and the nice guy upfront told us our room wouldn’t be ready until 3:30pm and he gave us our room number and sent us off. We didn’t think too much of it we brushed it off and went to the buffet to grab a bite. They gave us a ticket to the give the bellboy for our luggages. We come back around 3:45pm after eating. We gave the bellboy our ticket for luggages and he said we had to wait in line to get our room key. There was about 6 parties waiting to be checked in infront of us. It took forever to get seen up at the front. We did not go into our room until 4:45pm and our room number had changed. There were several other people complaining up front. Like I said im not sure if we were there during a huge rush hour or what but it was extremely difficult to get in our rooms. Waitress and waiters were great with services. The rooms had no iron for clothes or phones. Oh and the one person didnt give us a key for our safe in the room. Had to go back down for it. He seemed extremely annoyed due to the high volume of people in the resort.

Loved the tranquility and ocean view from the hotel. Transportation always available, availability to order other activities throughout town with a very helpful Concierge was convenient. Personal, always available and very friendly. If you want a beautiful place to relax, highly recommend.
