Beautiful grounds and beach. Most rooms very nice and plenty big enough. Food mediocre, as expected. Entertainment enjoyable. Always keep money and other "valuables" in the room safe when you are not in the room because housekeeping staff will consider it theirs if left out.

Had a great week here for vacation. Snorkeled the beach with great visibility, had great food options, and staff was very welcoming. Night club was not exciting since it lacked people but still the DJ would play request and bar was available.

We had a relaxing and fun time which was our plan. Reservations were difficult, even on the royal level. I would also like to see a specialty coffee shop and maybe a pastry/dessert/ice cream shop.

The staff was great. The property was clean. The food was okay. It’d be nice to have more options at the lunch buffet like pizza, chicken, and offer flour tortillas. The 9pm seating for dinner was disappointing to say the least. Ran out of food. It would also be nice to have some more activity at the pool, like trivia, bingo or silly games that get the guests involved other than volleyball and ping pong.

The staff at the Occidental were very friendly and helpful, which I would expect out of a good crew, but this was different. The crew at the Occidental made it feel more like you were a guest in their home than a customer at their resort. If you are looking for a resort with an over-the-top buffet and a multitude of activities that the guests never use, the Occidental is not for you. If you want a great experience with really good/inclusive activities and good food in an atmosphere that is very “home” (and very, very relaxed), the Occidental is for you. The only thing that I would change is that I would have chosen the package above Royal. Royal made check-in very easy, but I would have preferred the amenities in the upgraded package.

7 out of 9 people in our group became sick from something. Seemed to be food related. We never drake anything other then bottled water or water served at restaurants. Bathroom facilities are limited. Rooms were nice, beach nice, lots of lounge chairs. Shade was limited

Upgraded to Royal Level. Enjoyed the large jacuzzi area for the Royal level guests. Spent most of our time either on the beach or at the Royal Jacuzzi, as the main pool was very crowded and the Adult pool had towels on every chair most days, yet not many people. People would go save chairs early in the morning, then not show up until afternoon. Overall, very nice accommodations! Clean and grounds well kept!

A great week ... the campus is SO green, we enjoyed experiencing the many birds, dragonflies, midget coatis native to the island, bats flying at night, lizards... including one that crawled up a tree outside our patio one morning - just gourgeous. The buffet options offer an astounding array every day, salad bar filled with a variety of crisp fresh lettuces including butter leaf, red and green leaf, radicchio, romaine. The fresh jicama, mangoes, papaya was the best flavor I've had. Beautiful little delicious desserts of cake varieties every day, and frozen yogurt. Fish, shrimp, pork, chicken, beef options EVERY DAY. Delicious coffee.... The water is beautiful, the staff warm and welcoming. Walking the boardwalk every day to the pool and beachfront was relaxing in itself. Evening entertainment featured music and dance performances to represent different regions of Mexico and was throughly enjoyed by our child ... Definitely a highlight that wont soon be forgotten. We went snorkeling one afternoon and saw all the fish, turtles, starfish, and sting rays. If youre looking for a quiet and mellow place to just breathe, this is a great spot to do it. If youre looking for an all inclusive mellow week All in all, thumbs up. We'll be back!

The resort was clean and the rooms were nice and large. The property is long and narrow and set on a mangrove so there are no “ocean front” rooms. The beach is nice but the chairs could all be replaced. There is very little shade. The ala cart restaurants had decent food but the buffets were small and not very good. Additionally, service at the buffet restaurants was very slow. They were also sticklers for rules. You’re 5 minutes late or you have one extra person? No reservation for you (even though the entire restaurant was empty). The worst part? Everyone in our group of 9 got sick at the resort. We are all seasoned travelers who use bottled water and didn’t travel off the resort (and who have been to Mexico many times and not gotten sick). We spoke to many others who were also sick. It’s hard to be sick in a beautiful paradise.

Overall a very beautiful resort. Why it was rated it lower? Pro's: - Clean resort with helpful housekeeping staff, which we needed - Beautiful resort in the jungle with a nice beach - Friendly staff Con's: - Limited food options 8 of the 9 people in our part got sick for multiple days. This is a group that travels often to Mexico and usually does NOT get sick. The resort stated that there were no reports of illness, but we confirmed that others in the resort also reported the same issue.

We had a great stay! Food was great! Staff were wonderful! If I had to say one bad thing, it would be the amount of seaweed at the beach. And in the water. But the staff worked very hard EVERY morning to clean up the beach area from seaweed. A huge Kudos to them! The pool areas were great! You just had to get up VERY early if you wanted a beach chair. Guest put their belongings on chairs to claim them and never show up for hours… Overall we had a wonderful time celebrating our 40th anniversary! Thank you to all the staff!

Beautiful location set in a jungle and nearby the ocean with a great beach. Very convenient with it being a halfway point between the east side and downtown, about 20 min drive either direction. Breakfast buffet was great with being able to order fresh prepared eggs. Many of the other buffets were precooked and who knows how long it was sitting out. Be careful eating any veggies uncooked. I made the mistake on last day of eating a salad for lunch and got very, very sick. Other than that, a great experience and would go again but avoiding most of the buffet options unless cooked or knowing when it was prepared.

I absolutely loved the experience! The only things I did not like were that it was far too expensive to go more often and that I wish the staff were paid better. Inside of the air ducts in the rooms probably need cleaning. Everything else was better than I imagined.

While the ambiance of the property and the staff are very nice, the drinks are heavily watered down, the food is mediocre at best and usually comes out cold from the kitchen, u less your at the buffet. I had 3 meals at the various restaurants and I didn’t eat any of them due to the temperature of the food and off taste of the beef. Cozumel is beautiful and we’d likely visit again, but likely will not stay at the occidental without some major improvements

We really enjoyed our vacation. The resort is very clean, we were impressed with the restaurants and meals. The beach is smaller but very nice and clean. We enjoyed walking the shore and the resort has a neat juggle vibe. The entertainment was good, and it's a quiet resort. It was perfect for what we were looking for. Staff was top notch. We'll come back

The Dinner buffet was the only thing we really did not like, and I wish the pizza option opened earlier that 9:30 PM. The property is nice and spread out, the beach is nice and easy to swim in. Roger at the main pool is fantastic he will do what he needs to make your trip comfortable. Make your restaurant reservations early. we decided late to rent a car and they went out of their way to make it happen although the on site car rental had no cars.

Beautiful resort very friendly staff relaxing atmosphere Only down side was the buffet food was very land and few options. The royal gave a wonderful option for a private restaurant in which we enjoyed, The beach is also being washed away but it is a good swimming area, The nightly entertainment was not worth staying up but the grounds are so peaceful you can always find a nice spot to enjoy a beverage
