middle of the road

Posted Jan 13, 2017
Pros: front desk people were very good
Cons: The restaurant staff were very hard working yet most meals were at least half eaten before we could order a beverage, maybe understaffed?
Location: Somewhat isolated location which was fine, $20-$30 cab ride to downtown. Not much to do outside the resort
Overall just O K. You could hear people talking in the room next door literally. The food was mediocre at best and the same every day. The beach was was not that great, very few people went in the water probably due to plants etc growing just offshore.

nice stay!

Great dive staff ....rooms were much better than most other resorts we have stayed at in Cozumel. Food was great on Christmas Eve, but other than that just OK. I would recommend the Occidental...

Great place to stay and dive.

Posted Dec 24, 2016
Wonderful place to stay. Lower your expectations for food as it is "just a little off". Service is excellent and staff wonderful and the place is awesome. Don't go for the food however especially if your an American. Lower your expectation about the food and you will have a wonderful stay.

Disconnect and replenish

Posted Dec 21, 2016
An excellent way to disconnect from the stress of life and replenish the spirit. The facilities are beautiful - the grounds are a well maintained tropical garden , the main path leading from the main lodge past the 19 guest houses and several pools to the palm dotted playa on the edge of the world's 2nd most extensive coral reef. The staff are without hesitation, the greatest hotel staff I have ever encountered. Everyone has a friendly hello and are eager to assist. The food is wonderful and plentiful - abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, breads, fish, meat, starches, and sundries, with a nod to the kids preferences also. Activities are available and the front desk is well equipped to schedule tours both on Cozumel and on the Yucatan Penninsula - Playa Carmen is 45 minutes by ferry. If you want to disconnect, this is the place to do it.

Wonderful resort

Posted Dec 15, 2016
Pros: We liked everything about the resort, but feel the food could be a little better.
Cons: Really the only thing we think could be better is the food.
Location: Rent a jeep for your stay and cruise the island. It is very safe and very fun to check out all the different beach bars and restaurants.
Our stay at Occidental grand in December 2016 was very nice, We stayed here last year as well. The resort has updated the rooms since last year to make it even better. The staff are friendly, professional, but I think the food could be a little better. No bacon or sausage for your eggs in the morning, and it seemed like they just put out what they had. We think the food was a little better in 2015. The property is beautiful and has the feel of being in the middle of the Jungle with a nice beach a few yards away.

Great island resort

Beautifully landscaped with lush tropical gardens. Food is ok, but not great. Evening shows are good. Beware the time share sales. Brush up on your Spanish.

Great place to stay

Posted Nov 23, 2016
Great hotel and friendly staff. There was a lot of construction going on but it didn't affect our stay. The food was good however if your looking for authentic Mexican food you won't find it. There are employees that wear yellow button up shirts. Best to stay away from them. They can be helpful but they spent our entire trip trying to sell us stuff.

Ok overall...Food horrible

Posted Nov 15, 2016
The staff were friendly and helpful, club (timeshare) were very pushy. The breakfast and lunch was tolerable for the first few days but after that I could not bring myself to even eat it. Dinner buffet was TERRIBLE, we ate one time and never again. We will not return the only thing I can say is we got the all inclusive for a good price so I didn't feel to bad about spending money for food. It was simple to plan excursions and Cozumel was pretty. Town closed at 9 but I'm not much of a night person so that was fine

Waking up to sound of nature and jackhammer

Posted Oct 24, 2016
Pros: The staff, for the most part were very professional and helpful.
Cons: There was construction going on over nearly half the resort. Staff was not interested in helping with vouchers for the shuttle.
Location: Pro Dive is right on the beach. I cannot say enough good things about them. Very professional and friendly.
The hotel staff were very nice. I realize we chose to vacation during off season, but having jackhammers on either side of our room everyday all day was ridiculous. The main pool, lunch area and several sidewalks were closed due to construction. There was hot and cold running water, hot for 30 sec. then cold 30 seconds. Once I figured out the timing, taking a shower required a dance in and out of the water stream.
