Great steak and chips in the bar, fast internet and an evening of work email catch-up. Did the job.

Great staff!

Pros: The staff.
Cons: Better quality bedding. More effective room heating.
Location: Easy access for the M6.
We booked The Vicarage for an overnight stay whilst travelling back south from Scotland. Firstly the staff are all really friendly, welcoming and helpful - couldn't fault them at all. We also enjoyed a delicious evening meal in the pub which was busy so obviously very popular. Likewise breakfast was delicious. My only criticism would be that the rooms are fairly basic. I understand this is explained in the company's website but I think if you are pitching accommodation as "stripping out the unnecessary stuff and concentrating on what makes for a great stay" then there are a few things which would make a real difference especially high quality bedding (especially pillows!). The room decor could just do with a little extra TLC. Having said that we had a comfortable stay and the hotel was ideally located for the M6.

Could have been perfect

A very attractive and thoughtfully decorated building. A very nice space to be in. Would have said my stay was perfect, but the room itself was Incredibly hot. I visited in July and the temp was 26degC. The radiators weren't turned on, but the heating was so the pipes that fed the radiators were throwing out heat. They did give me a fan, but ended up call reception at 11pm begging them to switch the heating off. Which they did. I did raise the issue with reception earlier and they didn't do anything.

Short stay.

Check in was no problem and the staff were helpful after a small problem was sorted. The meals were enjoyable and wait staff lovely.

Food very good, room comfortable bed too soft for my personal liking. Difficult to get a taxi from the station in the evening
