Luxurious, unpretentious, beautiful place

Pros: Staff, ambiance, setting, bedroom, decor (especially in restaurant/breakfast room), spa.
Cons: We couldn't find any English Breakfast Tea in our room - that's pretty much it.
Location: Pretty village - a few nice pubs, good walking, lots to visit nearby. Hard to leave the hotel/spa though!
One-night stay with my husband celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. Great walking in the area when we arrived and pub lunch locally which didn't disappoint. Warm welcome at Ockenden Manor from the manager and an unexpected room upgrade - we stayed in the 'David' room up in the attic (categorised 'Deluxe') which was spacious and beautifully furnished with an enormous bed and an excellent bathroom (bath and shower with great Temple Spa toiletries). The room had gorgeous views over the gardens and despite it being a bizarrely warm day for September, was cool enough to be comfortable. We spent a few hours in the spa on arrival and the following morning and absolutely loved it. I could have spent all day in the outdoor pool. The setting and facilities are excellent. No treatments this time, but I would have been loathe to leave the water and the sun loungers. We ate dinner in Cuckfield but had drinks in the garden and again found the staff warm and thoroughly pleasant. I don't like stuffy or overly formal hotels and think Ockenden has it just right - great service with personality on all counts. Breakfast was really tasty and again the staff were great - quality food and a lovely setting. It's probably the nicest hotel stay we've ever had. Far more enjoyable and memorable than various 5 star hotels I've visited before - we'll be back as soon as we can, without a doubt.

Pros: I loved the restaurant (dinner) Food was amazing and staff service was really good. Pricey but worth it!
Cons: Rooms, cleanness, service, price, spa ( maybe somehow connect the spa to the hotel)
Location: location was ok. but its inside the village so there isn't much country side or parks where to go around. They have a garden but its quite small.
I went there with my mum and our partners for international women's day (8th of march) 2014 and I should say that the hotel is totally not "worth it" for the amount of money we've paid. We had 2 vintage deluxe rooms (309£ one) and in one of them the TV(really tinny) was not working and room was not clean. The furniture in the room was full of dust and the bed was really small and high. The room was really noisy as well cause there was the entrance door and a fire exit door and you could hear everything and everyone. The other room was alright...large TV, bed okay but the bathroom was awful..we actually found 2 bugs(quite big) in our bathtub, which was horrible. The spa was good, but not very clean and the steam room was closed.Another thing is that if you're actually staying in the hotel you have to walk outside to go to the spa(2min walk) which makes it awful especially in winter cause you're coming out from the jacuzzi or steam room/massage and then you have to walk outside in the cold. The massage was quite disappointing as well and our partners canceled their appointment 30 min before and they were still charged the hole price for that. The only thing that was really good and worth the money was the food. Dinner was absolutely amazing and the service was proper. Overall, I would never go back there. We've spend around 2100£ for 2 nights and it wasn't worth it. I wouldn't recommend staying at the hotel to a friend.

Ideal spot for rest and recuperation

Pros: Staff service
Cons: No hot chocolate with the in-room tea and coffee
The spa and spa suites are amazing. All under one room which was great for the rain. The room was enormous and had a fantastic bathroom. Spa facilities and treatment were brilliant. I would definitely recommend and return.
